I’ve had just about every type of credit card out there, from Amex to Discover to Mastercard to Visa. But these clowns are the ABSOLUTE worse and I would highly recommend avoiding their products and services.
We filed a fairly simple dispute with them for charges of around $200. The product we purchased simply did not perform as promised.
I initially contacted the merchant, but they balked in refunding the charges stating their guarantee was only 30 days from the date of PURCHASE.
I had called them on the 31st day, but they did offer first a 1/4 and then 1/2 refund. I declined and advised I would take it up with my credit card company.
The next six weeks of shitshow hell were courtesy of Capital One. The dispute was filed with Connie Chung who I don’t believe had a clue what we were disputing.
Our claim was that the merchant did not comply with their refund policy, which clearly stated a refund would be honoured if contact was made within 30 days of the product RECEIPT, not purchase.
The order was made late afternoon on 11/26; I received confirmation of the order the following day and the order itself that Wednesday, 11/30, so my call requesting a full refund on 12/27 was several days prior to the 30 day receipt.
The letter I received denying our claim stated the reason as “the product was received and in good condition”. Huh? I didn’t dispute its RECEIPT - I just wanted my money back for a) a product that didn’t work and b) a product that was GUARANTEED but the merchant failed to honour.
Phone calls, typed letters sent via USPS mail and multiple emails stating and PROVING my case were denied.
My final conversation with these clowns today included a list of items they required, including an original receipt for the purchase. Are you fucking kidding me?
I purchased the product on line and while I could have printed a copy of the order, I didn’t. I also did not receive any type of receipt with the product itself.
But isn’t it OBVIOUS the purchase was made? The charge is there on my statement and Capital One has already received my payment for it under its billing period!!!
Then I was advised to submit several other documents that were COMPLETELY irrelevant to the dispute, like a letterhead statement from another like vendor explaining what my vendor had done wrong and how they would have done differently. WTF?!?
They also advised that the “screen shot” I had forwarded to them with a FULL outline and explanation of their refund policy and showing the merchant web site and related information was “unacceptable”.
I asked what else was I supposed to submit to prove my case? I advised they were welcome to go to the web site THEMSELVES and review the guarantee policy. I was immediately reverted back to not having a copy of the original purchase receipt.
So it’s basically a system that breaks you down until you simply give up, which is exactly what they want. If it weren’t for the additional time and money it would take, I’d file a lawsuit against them.
We got this card around a year ago after a similar denied dispute with Discover. I did my due research and found this card to offer us the best benefits while at the same time being highly rated in reviews for their customer service.
In just over a year, we have averaged $4,000 a month in charges, paid off EVERY month and never carrying a balance or paying a dime for interest charges. Not a single bill was not paid at least a week prior to its due date.
Do you think that made one iota of difference or influence with them for a lousy $200 charge? Of course not - they couldn’t have been less apathetic about losing a 835 credit rating customer.
As it is, they won’t get another dime of charges from us and we’ve already moved our business to Chase.
GO DODGERS!!!
