Finally I"m back! I have stuff to do today but I'll fill you all in later today! Good to see you. Wow almost four weeks without my PC! I guess I can't really complain about my old PC dying, as it was eight years old and should've died three years ago. However, first I had to make an appointment with Geek Squad a week out, then I took it in and they told me it was fixed and good to go. But when I got it home it was doing the same stuff it had been doing, aside from the fact that one of their agents lied to me, I had to face reality that not even an Idaho Computer (I lived there when I bought it) can last forever. I then ordered a refurbished PC which took another week to arrive, only to learn that I needed an adapter cable to my monitor. Now I had to make another appointment for an agent to come here to my home to get it going (I'd have to anyhow since it's refurbished). Anyhow, I'm back now, so no more messing around! Let's talk Dodgers now!

Well our team that won 111 games is supposed to have a not-so-great farm, but our guys are #1, with those amazing three starters, Pepperman, Miller and Stone. Pepperman should make the roster and Miller and Stone will follow later this season.
As for Stony, here's the interview, and he said he has closer experience but we'll see:

Hey gang, the AL team I'm watching this year is the Orioles. They got hot in the second half last year and finished with 83 wins, their first >.500 team since '16. I'd love for them to topple the mighty Yanks, but they also have the Rays and Jays. That AL East is always a dogfight and this coming year will really be intense.

I still think there are a LOT of question marks with this team.
We have a past prime .200 hitting third baseman, an unproven questionable range and arm SS and a likely rotating second baseman, including an all star right fielder.
Imagine how many DP’s are going to be missed without the consistency and timing it takes to make those plays?
We let another .200 but outstanding defensive outfielder walk and will replace him with a dude that is in his second “tour” with a team that released him years ago.
We have ONE proven starter and if they push to get more innings out of Eew, you can already see the IL writing on the wall.
As much as I love and admire Kershaw, if the last few years have proven anything, he’ll probably have more than a couple of IL visits.
May did not look even close to the dominating hurler he was prior to his surgery coming back late last season. Perhaps the winter will give him the additional recovery time he needs - but that’s a big “perhaps”.
Syndegard might be the steal of the year if coaching can do for him what they did for Anderson and Weenie. But a fastball in the 90’s isn’t going to fool or get by too many major leaguers, unless they play Bellinger & the Cubs every game.
Catman just got a nice little extension, but was last year a fluke? And he’s another of the five or six inning club. And we’re all too familiar with what shortened starts do to a bullpen, no matter how many aces we have there.
I don’t see two rookies in our starting rotation or even by or after the All Star break.
Let’s face it - we’ve got two stars in Mookie and Freddie and not much more. Not to mention the lunkhead puppet master and marionette.
On the plus side? We’ve had the best team on paper for the better part of a decade and only one short season ring to show for it.
Maybe a scrappy, hungry bunch is what this team needs. But I ain’t holding my breath.
GO DODGERS!!!

Seven innings is rare. www.baseball-reference.com/players/gl.fcgi?id=gonsoto01&t=p&year=2022He gained traction in May. May 16th to June 14th, he made six starts. He went at least 6.0 innings in every one. The dude went 16-1. I'd call that fair to passable.

I guess so - but the “old school” in me still remembers four man rotations and guys winning 20 - 30 games with 15 - 20 complete games. Relievers would goes days, even weeks between appearances.
Now they’re in EVERY game unless a no hitter or perfect game is being thrown. And EVEN THEN - thanks again for those denials, Daisy.
GO DODGERS!!!

I remember that too, but in those days, pitchers didn't light up the radar gun and learned to pace themselves. Hence, many less rotator cuff injuries and other ailments that land pitchers on the IL. And also, most teams had 10 pitchers, and today teams have 13. The closer hadn't really been thought of yet and there were long, middle and short relievers; if a pitcher threw 71 pitches thru 6 innings, managers didn't pull them just cos they issued a single walk and then let the bullpen blow the game. I wish Tommy Lasorda was manager again.

Dodgers’ Miguel Vargas embraces change of plans
Story by Bill Plunkett, Los Angeles Daily News • Yesterday 8:30 AM
LOS ANGELES — The path to an everyday role with the Dodgers in 2023 seemed to be mapped out for Miguel Vargas.
The top hitting prospect in the system, Vargas had played third base more than any other position by far during his four seasons in the minor leagues. During his big-league cameo last season, three of his seven starts in the field came at third base (and the other four in left field).
When the Dodgers let veteran third baseman Justin Turner leave in free agency, the way seemed clear for Vargas to open next season as the Dodgers’ primary third baseman.
But the Dodgers will head to spring training next week with Vargas penciled in at second base – a position he played in just 28 games over those four minor-league seasons and not at all in the majors.
“At this point – and we’ll continue to evaluate – he’s taking a lot of reps and that (second base) is his focus as of right now,” General Manager Brandon Gomes said. “And that’s trending really well. He’s a great athlete, and he’s working incredibly hard as well.”
Over the past four seasons, Gavin Lux has started more games at second base (153) than anyone else for the Dodgers. He is moving back to his natural position, replacing the departed Trea Turner at shortstop this season.
Next in line has been Max Muncy (129 starts at second over the past four seasons). But the Dodgers plan to make Muncy the primary third baseman – a position he played more often than Justin Turner last year with the DH rule adopted in the National League.
“I think I performed pretty well there last year. Our internal metrics were very good for me,” Muncy said, an analytic assessment Gomes also mentioned. “I did start feeling very comfortable because I was playing it an awful lot. Third base is a position I’ve always said that you need to play consistently to feel comfortable over there. When I was bouncing around and played there once every week, two weeks I felt like it was a very hard position to play. But when I started playing it every day I felt really comfortable. It got a lot easier for me.”
Second base could get a lot more difficult to play in 2023. The new defensive shift rules will require two infielders on either side of second base at all times. There will be no more loading up the right side against left-handed hitters. That increases the need for athleticism and range from second basemen. But Gomes would not say that the 23-year-old Vargas’ athleticism was the reason behind choosing an inexperienced Vargas to start at second base with Muncy at third.
“We’re just trying to piece together the best possible infield,” Gomes said. “I think Muncy is a great athlete, personally. He’s always graded out very well defensively, he can move very well. Vargy is our second- or third-fastest guy on the team which is probably not appreciated at all. So he’s also a good athlete. It’s more about getting him reps and just getting his feel at second.
“I think the combination of it all is very strong. And then to have (Miguel) Rojas to mix in there with some regularity we feel is very good.”
One of the best defensive infielders in the NL, Rojas has played all four infield positions and the veteran has already taken Vargas under his wing. The two have talked by phone since Rojas was acquired in a trade with the Marlins and they worked out a couple of times in Miami with Rojas offering instruction at shortstop under his theory that “if you can play shortstop you can play other positions.”
Vargas earns high marks from Rojas for his eagerness to learn.
“(Vargas) reached out to me and asked about working on defense. That tells a lot to me about what he wants to be,” Rojas said. “He wants to be a good defender – not just a good player and happy to get an opportunity. He wants to be a good defender and he’s working hard at second base.”
Vargas said he has also been working with Dodgers coach Dino Ebel this winter as well as Placido Polanco, a special advisor in the Dodgers’ front office who won three Gold Gloves during his playing career – two at second base and one at third. He is the only player to have won Gold Gloves at multiple infield positions.
“They’ve helped me a lot and now I feel a lot more comfortable playing second,” Vargas said.
The Dodgers haven’t told him directly that he will play second base, Vargas said, “But I’m ready for it.”
“Things could change. Things can change by the time we get out of here and get to the regular season,” Vargas said. “I just want to get ready, focus on doing everything I can to be ready. Then when that opportunity presents itself, be ready for that.”

So, in other words, let’s try THIS for the five or six weeks in Glendale, and if it doesn’t work, we’ll change it up going into the regular season?
This has disaster written all over it. What are they going to do if Muncy continues to bat .200? Vargas and Rojas have already been deemed “great D, meh bat”.
And SS is Lux’ “natural” position? Dude has trouble covering and throwing from second base. How’s he going to handle more territory, deeper throws as well as being “captain” of the infield?
Of course, DDF II continues to toy with the idea of an All Star OF wasted at 2B. Then - show me an arm and wheels that can replace him on the current roster. I’ll wait.
This is the most disorganized we have seen this team in Daisy’s tenure. I’m interested and willing to see just how competitive they are.
But to me it’s like going from a Bentley to a Yugo. Anyone seen any of those running and still on the road?
GO DODGERS!!!

The Dodgers won 95 games.
