I'll man up on this. The Padres were the 'hotter' team, to use Friednan's terminology. They beat a listless Dodger team in the playoffs, & then lost to the Phillies. They may be for real. You have to expect more from Sosa next year. It remains to be seen what Tatis provides.
The Dodgers might finally have a rivalry. The Giants battled us that one year. They might be looking at a major rebuild.

Josh Hader Avoids Arbitration With Record Deal
Story by RotoBaller Staff • 2h ago
The San Diego Padres and relief pitcher Josh Hader avoided salary arbitration on Friday by agreeing to a one-year, $14.1 million deal, according to a source. It becomes the biggest salary in arbitration in MLB history for a reliever. The Padres acquired the left-hander from the Milwaukee Brewers at last year's trade deadline, but was uncharacteristically wild and really struggled overall in 2022. Hader had a 7.31 ERA in 19 appearances in San Diego and finished with a career-high 5.22 ERA (3.45 FIP), 1.28 WHIP, 36 saves, 9.6% walk rate and 37% strikeout rate. Despite the down year, the 28-year-old southpaw had a really rough stretch to blame and he looked to be back to elite Hader form in the postseason, so a bounce-back campaign in 2023 is very possible.

Sounds like another MASSIVE overpay. They probably could have gotten Kimbrel for half that. Despite his postseason, I think Hader has fallen into “the Kimbrel zone”. He’ll get lit up one night and then be unhittable the next. Must be a mental thing. Any Bauer sitings in Staintown yet? I hear there’s a few escorts there looking for some rough sex, including that bitch that cost him his career. GO DODGERS!!!

White Sox pitcher under investigation after horrific allegations
Story by Sam Neumann • Yesterday 12:30 PM
Major League Baseball is investigating Chicago White Sox pitcher Mike Clevinger after allegations of domestic violence involving the mother of his 10-month-old daughter and child abuse, have surfaced, according to a report from Brittany Ghiroli and Katie Strang of The Athletic.
Speaking with The Athletic, Olivia Finestead said that she has been in contact with the MLB’s Department of Investigations since this summer, shortly after multiple incidents of abuse occurred. In her conversation with The Athletic, Finestead, 24, detailed a very graphic incident, in which Clevinger allegedly choked her, and another that took place about two weeks later when she said Clevinger slapped her in a hotel room and threw used chewing tobacco on their daughter.
Clevinger was with the San Diego Padres during the time of the alleged incident. He signed a one-year, $8 million deal with the White Sox this offseason. Team officials expressed to The Athletic in a statement, that they were unaware of these allegations when they signed Clevinger this offseason.
“Major League Baseball and the Chicago White Sox take any and all allegations very seriously, and the White Sox are completely supportive of the Joint Domestic Violence, Sexual Assault and Child Abuse policy shared by MLB and the MLBPA,” the team said in a statement issued to The Athletic. “MLB opened an investigation after learning of these allegations. The White Sox were not aware of the allegations or the investigation at the time of his signing. The White Sox will refrain from comment until MLB’s investigative process has reached its conclusion.”
The Padres offered a statement saying they were made aware of the allegations, but opted not to comment due to the nature of the ongoing investigation into Clevinger.

Okay. This isn't meant as a defense of Trevor Bauer. But he gets accused by a hooker & is immediately tarred & feathered by the public. MLB suspends him. He's a pariah in baseball circles.
Clevinger (a San Diego pitcher) is accused by the mother of his child & he's allowed to finish the season. Even sign a new contract with another team.
At the very least there's a wild discrepancy in the way Manfred enforces rules.

The big question is will Bauer file against him, MLB & the Dodgers? Or have they gone the way of our government and are just too big, powerful and corrupt to fight? (Jeopardy theme here) GO DODGERS!!!

Reports: Michael Wacha, Padres in agreement on contract Associated Press Tue, February 14, 2023 at 1:36 PM PST·1 min read Right-hander Michael Wacha agreed in principle to a contract with the San Diego Padres, according to two people with knowledge of the deal. The people spoke with The Associated Press on the condition of anonymity because the deal was still being finalized and pending Wacha passing a physical. The contract was believed to be for multiple years, similar to what the Padres gave right-hander Nick Martinez last year, and both people described it as “complicated.” The 31-year-old Wacha was 11-2 with a 3.32 ERA in 23 starts for the Boston Red Sox last year. The Padres will be his fifth team. He spent his first seven seasons with the St. Louis Cardinals and was selected MVP of the 2013 NL Championship Series as a rookie. He also pitched for the New York Mets and Tampa Bay Rays. The Padres had been looking to add a starter and appear to be leaning toward starting the season with a six-man rotation. Wacha will join a rotation that includes Yu Darvish, Joe Musgrove, Blake Snell, Martinez and Seth Lugo. docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1hUvYNZODpusJEJQm41EPUDHXi-fSWtWmxY54X4OW3Q4/edit#gid=1520401900

Manny Machado To Opt Out
Story by Matthew Postins • Yesterday 8:53 PM
Inside the Rangers keeps up with MLB news as baseball gets closer to the 2023 regular season.
San Diego Padres third baseman Manny Machado plans to opt-out of his contract and test the free-agent market after this season, he announced on Friday.
It's an unusual move to announce it before the 2023 season even starts.
Machado signed a 10-year, $300 million deal in 2019, but that deal allowed him to opt out after 2023. At the time he signed the deal, it was a Major League record.
The new record is the $390 million deal New York Yankees outfielder Aaron Judge signed this offseason. Machado cited the changing market as a reason for opting out.
Feb. 17: The San Diego Padres and pitcher Michael Wacha agreed to a four-year contract on Friday.
The deal is creative, financially-speaking, per The Athletic. He'll get a s $3.5 million signing bonus and $4 million this season. After that, the Padres have two club options in 2024 and 2025 worth $16 million each, but the Padres must pick up both at the same time.
If the Padres don't, Wacha has player options for the next three seasons worth $18.5 million combined. Those can be exercised one at a time.
Wacha is the final piece of a six-man rotation for the Padres. He went 11-2 last season with Boston.
Feb. 9: Yu Darvish and the San Diego Padres have reportedly agreed to a six-year, $108 million contract extension that will keep Darvish out of free agency after next season, per ESPN.
The extension ends in 2028 when Darvish is 42.
Darvish, the former Rangers starter, has been with the Padres since 2021. He went 16-8 last year with a 3.10 ERA and finished eighth in Cy Young voting.
Jan. 13: Juan Soto and the San Diego Padres avoided arbitration when the two sides agreed to a one-year, $23 million deal on Friday, per multiple reports.
The deal ensures that Soto — whom the Padres acquired at the trade deadline for a raft of top prospects — remains with the team at least one more season. It also gives the sides time to work on a long-term deal.
Soto cannot be a free agent before the 2024 season.

How are we expected to compete with a team that just goes out & buys players like that? It's not fair, I tells yah.

Poor little Manny just can’t get by on a measly $30 mil a year. What a crock and piece of shit!
And no way he gets Judge money. I know it won’t, but it would be nice to see this come back and bite him in the ass.
Better yet - he gets hurt early, spends most of the year on the IL and then has to eat his words / suck it up and continue playing for the Mads with a lingering injury that limits his playing time and production.
And then the Mads release HIM!!! What a dickhead!
GO DODGERS!!!

Looks like Manny’s “threat” to option out has suckered the Mads into another $350 million commitment over 11 years.
Where in the F are they coming up with all of this money? Seems like they have an open checkbook down south.
Guess they want to be the new luxury tax title holders.
And ELEVEN years? Will Machado even still be walking upright by the mid ‘30’s?
I only hope they have the same result as we’ve seen far too many times before. Money can’t buy you love - or MLB titles, either.
GO DODGERS!!!

MLB Rumors: Juan Soto sounds off on Padres failures Buying at the MLB trade deadline was a bold approach by San Diego Padres general manager A.J. Preller, but it hasn't worked out so well thus far.
The Padres held a players-only meeting after their most recent defeat, a 6-1 loss to the Seattle Mariners which dropped San Diego to 55-60 on the season.
"Any loss is disappointing right now," Padres manager Bob Melvin said, per the AP. "With Yu Darvish on the mound and you're facing a guy in his major league debut, maybe that adds to it, but I think any loss right now, especially after we lost the first game here, each one of them is disappointing."
The players seemed to put a bit of onus on this defeat.
"Unacceptable," Manny Machado said, per the San Diego Union-Tribune. "… I mean, he made some good pitches. We just couldn't capitalize on it. But yeah, we're way better than that, than what we did today."
Juan Soto, who was mentioned in trade rumors prior to the deadline and should pop up again this offseason come the winter meetings, was the loudest of the bunch.
"We've got to play as a team," Soto said. "We've got to go out there grind every day. Grind every at-bat. … It's been really inconsistent. Some days we do, some days we don't. We gotta do it every day. Days like this series, we just give up. Like literally, we just give up instead of keep grinding, keep pushing. We've got to forget about yesterday and keep moving."
With each passing comment, Soto's future in San Diego grows more murky.
Soto won't be a free agent until the 2024-25 offseason, but a contract extension seems unlikely given he's a Scott Boras client. The star outfielder should test his market value in free agency, especially if it's as high as Boras says it is. For most teams, trading Soto would be on the table, but this is Preller and the win-now Padres we're talking about.
Soto's growing frustration, and the Pads potential failure to make the playoffs, is something to keep an eye on.
