Anybody that knows anything about charcoal grilling probably knows about these. They have been compared to Weber’s and are actually even more expensive than some of their grills.
I am hear to warn readers and anyone / everyone they know about my experience these past couple of weeks.
The wife and I have been considering getting a charcoal grill due to as much as we love & use our gas grill, you just cannot get that same “char” taste and flavour from gas.
My wife found one of many (I counted over a half dozen) web sites advertising and selling these grills at ridiculously low and discounted prices.
For $94, we thought we couldn’t lose as our purchase would be protected by PayPal if it was not real, or so we thought.
I was suspicious right away after ordering Sunday of last week as I didn’t receive any confirmation from the seller for the order even by the following couple of days.
On that date of order, I had set up an account under my email address and there was an order number associated with it.
By Tuesday, I went back to the site, but when I put in my email address it advised no account existed. After resetting it up a second time, there was no order showing whatsoever.
I immediately contacted PayPal and opened a dispute for what I felt was a fraudulent transaction. They advised they would inquire back to the seller.
A few days later I get an email from PayPal advising my claim had been denied as the seller had provided a USPS tracking number which had a full detail of its movement thru their various locations and delivery to my home last Saturday.
I called PayPal immediately to advise the item had definitely NOT been delivered. They again referred me to the tracking and daily status the USPS site had provided based on the tracking number.
It stated a delivery attempt was to be made on Friday, 6/25 however, I had requested item be held & delivered the following day. That NEVER happened.
Then on Saturday, 6/26 the package was supposedly left “in or next to my mailbox”. Obviously a package this size would not fit IN my mailbox and in 25 years of living here, our post driver has NEVER left a package next to my mailbox. They will ALWAYS bring to our porch & ring our doorbell and again, that did NOT happen.
In trying to explain this to the morons at PayPal, I was advised they could only go by what the criminal seller had told them.
They put the onus of proving the package was never delivered back on ME and advised they would reopen the case if I could provide that proof.
After several emails to the USPS web site & the local branch that delivers to my subdivision, I FINALLY got that proof today.
I was advised the package associated with the tracking number the seller provided to PayPal was a small bag weighing in at only 20 ounces - obviously a bit small and light for a charcoal grill with a four foot plus table.
Not only that, the package was not even addressed to me. So at this point I’m feeling pretty good and recontacted PayPal to see who or where to forward this correspondence from the Post Office.
Not so fast - PayPal initially refuses to reopen the case and suggest contacting my credit card company and disputing the charges thru them.
I’m furious at this point and tell them there is no way in Hell that’s going to happen because I had an incident like this before and after PayPal denied the claim, so did Discover advising they were simply an agent that I was using for payments to and from PayPal and since I had authorized them to make payment, they could not make a chargeback to them.
So I finally get PayPal to agree to reopen the case and send them my corresponding proof from the USPS. After nearly two weeks and God knows how many hours, I just received notification from PayPal my account was being credited the full amount.
The sad thing is, probably nine out of ten people wouldn’t have gone through all of this trouble for $100. and this asshole likely received and kept thousands of dollars from suckers like me.
I contacted the corporate offices at Big Green Egg and they were already aware and in the process of getting the sites taken down and going after this clown and his cohort enablers. As of today, they’re still active.
DON’T BE SUCKERED!!!
GO DODGERS!!!
