Mark Eaton, the 7-foot-4 shot-blocking king who twice was the NBA's Defensive Player of the Year during his career with the Utah Jazz, has died, the team said Saturday. He was 64.
The Jazz said police said Eaton was found lying in the road around 8:30 p.m. Friday after apparently crashing his bike in Summit County, Utah. According to the Jazz, the Summit County Sheriff's Office said Eaton was taken to a hospital, where he later died, and there was no reason to believe a vehicle was involved in the accident.
"The Utah Jazz are profoundly saddened at the unexpected passing of Mark Eaton, who was an enduring figure in our franchise history and had a significant impact in the community after his basketball career," the team said in a statement.

Moving wasn't Mark's forte. I remember how the Jazz's defense was to funnel everything straight up the middle for Eaton to block. Him winning those defensive awards was really a team effort.
He was a big guy too. Not skinny like Kareem, or later Manute Bol & Shawn Bradley. Eaton was close to 300 lbs.

Sounds a bit fishy to me. I’ve crashed many times on both a bicycle and motorcycle and have NEVER ended up “lying in the road”. Off the side of or down in a ditch or gully, yes. But never in or on the road itself. And how does one die on a bicycle? They don’t go THAT fast. I guess if he wasn’t wearing a helmet and clunked his head on the pavement, maybe. But this just sounds a little off and like the local badges don’t really want to do their job and at least investigate even a little. GO DODGERS!!!
