Carlos Rodón throws second no-hitter of 2021, misses perfect game by two outs

One month ago, Carlos Rodón was battling for the fifth starter spot in the Chicago White Sox rotation, after undergoing Tommy John surgery, dealing with shoulder issues and getting non-tendered by the team.
On Wednesday, he was completing the 20th no-hitter in White Sox history.
The left-hander entered the history books against the Cleveland Indians, allowing no hits in nine innings for the second White Sox no-hitter in as many years. Lucas Giolito accomplished the same in 2020. It is also the second no-no in MLB this year, coming less than a week after Joe Musgrove's historic night.
As impressive as a no-hitter is for Rodón, he was only two outs from the 24th perfect game in MLB history. A hit-by-pitch off the ankle of Roberto Perez led to Cleveland's first baserunner of the game in the ninth inning. A profane chant from the Guaranteed Rate Field faithful followed.
Rodón's final line: nine innings, no hits, no walks, one hit-by-pitch, seven strikeouts, 114 pitches.
Adding to the impressiveness of the night was that Rodón only got stronger as he went on. His first fastball of the night came in at 92.4 mph, with his velocity progressing until he hit 98.8 mph against the final batter of the game.

What I've seen is the strike zone might be a little bigger this year. That would speed games up. But they're still going with harder bats & livelier balls. That keeps us in the seats to see skyrocketing homers.
I wonder what the ratio is to runs scored & homers. How many solo shots have we seen over the last few years?

I saw the final inning on MLB-TV and the pitch that hit Perez actually looked like it went off his toe and he made little to zero effort to get out of the way of it. Now, granted - he was getting fed a steady diet of 95 + mph fastballs prior to the slider that hit him, but there certainly didn’t seem to be any effort by Perez to avoid it. I’m not sure if he even moved that foot at all. Damn fine effort by Rodón, though. I’ve seen a number of no - nos on the tele, including Fernando’s, Reuss’, Martinez’s, Gross’, Beckett’s, Nomo’s at the Denver Launching Pad and of course, Kershaw’s. I was too young to see or remember any of Sandy’s. But I don’t remember ever seeing a PERFECT game by anyone as it occurred. I know Browning of the local Redlegs had one against our boys in blue, and I have seen highlights & replays of portions of it - but I didn’t see it happen as it unfolded. And I’ve never seen either a perfect or no - no while actually at a game in a stadium. Would be a “bucket list” item, but it’s impossible to predict where and when one is going to happen! GO DODGERS!!!
