There's a show on TV right now talking about QAnon. I'm sure I've related the story of my late brother. Dave was just one member of my family though.
I never had the pleasure of meeting my half-sister Linda. She lived & died in Ohio. She died May 5, 1987. I was talking to my brother John just recently. He had been told Linda slipped on an icy porch at home, fell, hit her head & died. I corrected him. Linda was diagnosed as a paranoid-schizophrenic & was institutionalized. She slipped alright. She was allegedly running away from staff & slipped on a waxed floor, hit her head & died. Who knows? I've always wondered why places like that were so slow to install cameras. Yes. I realize that sounds paranoid. Mom died in 2009. That recently. She was in four nursing homes. None had cameras. One time I discovered bed sores & all hell broke loose. There's a reason they didn't want cameras.
Mom's father was a Baptist minister. He fathered ten children. The youngest was Mom. Her father ran off with another woman. Grandma died of ovarian cancer in 1936. Mom was ten. Her & aunt Margie were the only two children left in their mother's house. They took care of their mother until she died. That left Mom an orphan. Everyone warned her about her father. But really, what's a ten year old supposed to do? She found her father, moved in with him, he paid her as a maid, she went to school one day, came home & found her father had moved. That would make anyone paranoid. After that, Mom would move in with a sister, & her sister's husband didn't want her there. She would move in with a brother, & her brother's wife wouldn't want her there. She briefly lived on a farm & considered the animals pets. Pinky the pig would follow Mom to school & be waiting for her when she got out. One day Pinky wasn't there. At dinner that night Mom asked where Pinky was. The farmer answered - "you're eating him."
So she got married at age 15. More to have a roof over her head than anything else. Harley would get drunk & pull pranks. Like the time he tied a dead rat to Mom's toe & then shook her awake. They had Linda in 1947. Mom was 22. Later that year a sister of Mom & her son were traveling to pick their husband / father up from prison. He had been dealing in liquor illegally. Georgie fell asleep behind the wheel & mother & child were smeared across a Kansas highway. When word reached Mom, that was the last straw. She suffered a nervous breakdown. She was institutionalized & received 30 shock treatments. 15 insulin. 15 electric. Harley would visit & tell her what they were going to do when she got out. Mom finally told him she wasn't going back to him. He was part of the problem. Harley vowed Mom would never see their daughter again if she left him. He was a man of his word. Then Linda became a paranoid-schizophrenic.
My brother Dave scared the shit out of me when we were kids. His temper would just boil over. He used to throw fits. Aunt Margie had moved to the Valley. We visited just about every weekend. Dave would throw himself on the floor & have tantrums, while aunt Margie looked frantically for something to give him. Spoiled? That would be my first instinct too. But Dave's tantrums were real. There was just something wrong with him. He was later diagnosed as a paranoid-schizophrenic. He died after walking out of a halfway house he shouldn't have been in. Mom & I had had him committed to six months in maximum security. 30 days later he was in a halfway house.
So I feel I have some experience in these matters. Something is happening in America. Too much media. Biased media. Too easy access to biased media. Video games. All of the above. As a nation, we're extremely paranoid. Some of the things we choose to believe in seem incredible. Baby eating liberal pedophiles. Jewish laser beams from outer space causing forest fires. Computer chips in vaccines. These would have gotten you a tin foil hat & a trip to the laughing academy 40 years ago. Reagan pretty much eliminated mental institutions in his zeal to spend taxpayer dollars on our military instead. So these people are treated on a more cost efficient out-patient basis now.
I have no idea why I haven't fallen victim to this seeming pandemic. If this kind of thing runs in families, I certainly have the pedigree. What worries me is how this disease seems to be spreading. I get attacked online by people who tell me I'm naive. Yeah. You don't believe in it now. Open your eyes! Typical California liberal. I'm not getting that devil vaccine! I've been asked why I hate America because I'm not a Donald Trump adherent or blatant racist. Since when are they synonymous? A personal friend of mine made me promise to not get the vaccine. The example he used was a movie (Will Smith's 'Legend?') where the vaccine turned people into zombies. I just kind of looked away without saying anything. "Okay."
I'm not saying there isn't some truth in some of this. Elon Musk is investing in biotech stuff. Man & machine. Hopefully I'll be dead by the time it really happens. I mean that sincerely. That's not my world anymore. But I still worry about my children, & my children's children. Maybe we'd be better off cyborgs than lemmings who eat up this paranoia bullshit. You just have to know there will be people who capitalize on feelings of insecurity. Play one side against the other. That's what Hitler did. If I was to single one group out I distrust above all others, it would be the filthy rich. They're entrenched, run the system, run the system to their own benefit & have a vested interest in maintaining the status quo.
Anyway, just venting because of what I'm seeing, & the visceral reactions from people who believe in this stuff when I challenge their beliefs. I'm not religious either. One GOP 'guru' pointed out the unique nature of Christianity. How we revolve around resurrection. I pointed out many religions who preceded Christianity & believed in resurrection. "Yeah, but this is real." Ummm...riight. What happened to the uniqueness? This was yesterday. I'm still receiving mocking replies to that. HEATHEN!

Great title for your post, as America is indeed paranoid. In order to counter the conservative successes, the establishment has indoctrinated the young generation. I've seen more new issues over the past three or four years than in all my prior years on this Earth, and LBGTQ is the worst. When I mention that trans people have serious self esteem problems, I'm called hateful, as are any of us for daring to disagree with anything the left has to say. THey say if you spank a kid, they'll grow up to be violent criminals, and if you disagree you're a child abuser and sadist, end of discussion. To critisize anyone of the Squad, especially big mouth Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is both racist and sexist. All these examples and many more have been programmed into this young generation like software, like Josef Mengele. If they want to hear your opinion, they'll tell you what it is. And about the insurrection at Capital Hill: It might have been staged by left wing actors, with George Soros behind it. WE'll never know one way or the other for sure. But I can't wrap my mind around the possibility of the mentality of right wingers who actually committed this act of treason. For many Americans, it set back the conservative cause at least years. The USA has become a very scary place. |

The time Dad got so mad at my late brother & I, he grabbed us both by the wrists & dragged us to the backyard. We had a woodshed. Who has a woodshed in Los Angeles? I was five years old. Dave was seven. Dad got a 2x4. I was always first. He made me grab the edge of a counter & there was a WHACK! WHACK! WHACK! I was too shocked to cry. Dad twirled the board around in his hand, in a menacing way. Dave was next. Dad didn't know a nail was protruding from the other side. Dave out out a howl the neighbors could hear. For decades after that I teased Dad. "I can bake you a cake with a file in it." He would just give a sheepish smile. John was rolling with laughter as I retold that story. But I had a little girl. Awww. Look at her. I can't hit a little girl. |

I don’t know anyone my age or older that didn’t get whacked a time or two in their youth and not only by our own parents, but also by parents of our friends when we misbehaved or broke the rules at their homes.
NONE (or at least very few of us 😬) ended up on a tower with multi shot magazine high powered rifles gunning down innocent people.
The lack of discipline that we grew up with has turned a good deal of this nation into whining pussies who think the world owes them EVERYTHING just because they were born.
There’s no accountability for anything these days and like 78 said, if you even DARE to disagree, you’re labeled before you can even finish or support your point and stance.
I thought I’d seen it all until a night or two ago. Flipping through the channel guide and the movie “In and Out” with Kevin Kline is about to start.
In the description, it normally starts with the movie type (action, adventure, mystery, sci-fi, etc,) and the year the movie was released. I knew the movie as I had seen it when it first came out and was known as a comedy.
I’ll be damned if HBO hasn’t changed that to “Gay/Lesbian” now. I’m guessing Mrs. Doubtfire will also lose the “comedy” label and now show up as “Transgender” or “Cross Dressing”?
How low can we possibly sink? I’m thinking we’ve yet to come close to bottom.
