Looking for some suggestions on tequila for our spring holiday down in Destin in a month of so. We have normally gone with Cabo Wabo Respado (blue bottle), but a few years ago we started trying some other brands.
So far, we have had Patron, 1800, Avion, Espolon and Milagro, all pretty decent, but we’re always looking for something new.
Prefer reposados to blanco / silver; won’t touch Cuervo (nasty swill). Our liquor store in Destin has at least 50 - 60 brands and some are pretty pricey - but does higher price necessarily mean better tequila?
Not looking for a “mixer” - just something smooth to do a “salt, shot and lime” with every night. Any and all suggestions are welcome!

IF I drink tequila, it's usually Patron. Don Julio isn't bad either.

IF I drink tequila, it's usually Patron. Don Julio isn't bad either. I think Ray gave me some suggestions in the past or maybe even on the other board. I believe he said most REAL tequila distillers “laugh” at Cabo Wabo, but we’ve found it to be the “smoothest” of all we’ve tried thus far, especially when kept in the freezer. But like I said - we’re always up for trying new things so hopefully he sees this and can refer us to a few he prefers. GO DODGERS!!!

I did a little research before heading down to FL last week, looking to see what was being recommended via search engines, magazine articles, etc.
Siete Leguas showed up a number of times as an overall favourite for reposado however, we could not find it at any of the liquor stores we checked in Destin.
A few others we were interested in were also missing from shelves, so we elected to go with George Clooney’s Casamigos and found it to be very close to one of our favs, Cabo Wabo, formerly owned by Sammy Hager.
It was smooth going down without the heavy bite and sometimes bitter aftertaste of say, Cuervo or 1800.
There’s a new tequila bar located a little north in a restaurant / entertainment district that we’re planning on hitting and trying maybe a few shots at a time. I believe they have over 100 choices, so that should make for some interesting nights!
