Marvin was one of my early heroes. When he beat Alan Minter for the middleweight championship, he was rained with boos & beer bottles in Wembley Arena. That always stood out to me when talking with British bloggers who would say such mindlessly numb things like - "I'm British. I don't understand racism." You motherfuckers ruled over half the world. India, China, Africa, the Caribbean. Just now Meagan Markle reports on racism & the royal family says they're the least racist family ever. Interesting. What other members of color have you had? Just Markle, eh? She's about as black as my sheets. Hmmm..
The only flaw with Marvin was being too cautious in big fights. Vito Antuofermo was one. Marvin should have knocked him out, although I do have to admit Vito should have been wrapped in leather & hung by chains. That guy could take one hellacious beating. But Marvin had those fights with Ray Leonard & Roberto Duran too. He should have pushed both into a corner & knocked the snot out of them. He had a timeless classic with Tommy Hearns because Hearns was dumb enough to buy his own hype & stand his ground with Marvin.
RIP, Marvin. You're a true Hall of Famer.
