Long live the King!
Former MLB home run king Hank Aaron dead at 86
Alex Sund / by 11 mins ago
Baseball legend Hank Aaron, who broke Babe Ruth's career home run record, has died, the Atlanta Braves announced Friday. He was 86.
Aaron broke the Babe's record of 714 home runs in 1974 with a shot to the left field bullpen at Atlanta Fulton County Stadium. When Aaron hit home run number 715, he had been with the Braves since his debut in 1954, when the team was located in Milwaukee.
"Hammerin' Hank" would belt another 40 out of the park for a total of 755 homers before he finished his career in 1976 with the Milwaukee Brewers. Aaron was inducted into baseball's Hall of Fame in 1982.

That guy was a machine. Willie Mays was the more spectacular player. Aaron churned out the numbers year after year. Just remarkable consistency. I memorized his baseball card.

Barry Bonds was a great player. But what he did with the help of steroids was more of a novelty. Hank Aaron is still the King to me. And he had to endure racist death threats when he was closing in on Babe Ruth.
RIP for a life well lived.

Was just talking to my brother. Pretty tipsy too after figuring out how well I did this month in a pandemic.
The people in my age group saw the greatest era in baseball history. That's arguable with people older than me who can say an all white era that included the likes of Joe DiMaggio & Ted Williams was better. I happen to think the opening of the Negro Leagues was the most significant event of MLB in the 20th century. Of course I still love baseball, but we have to factor in PED's with just about any player nowadays. Who's taking. Who isn't.
People younger than me will point to the accomplishments of the next one or two generations of players. That naturally leads to who's roiding again. And the upper-cutting while on an 0-2 count will always bother me. Hank Aaron hit 755 homeruns without doing that. He & Willie Mays both had career batting averages of over than .300 without doing that.

There was never anything controversial about him.

Of course Mickey was a drunk too. Look at Eddie Mathews' numbers & you'll notice a power drop for Hank Aaron right about the time of Eddie's decline. I always figured Hank got pitched differently.

I always figured Frank Robinson was a rung below those guys because he would have off-seasons. 1962 to 1963 stands out. The Reds traded him prior to the 1966 season because they figured he had seen his best days. He won the Triple Crown his first year in Baltimore. He belongs with those guys.

Fellow Fans of the True Blue, I heard a doctor say on a talk radio show that Hank had the Covid vaccine two weeks before his death. The doctor asked how many of us think that was the cause of death. I was driving so I didn't hear the rest, but it's an interesting question. How was his health before his death? He was 86 so it could have been many factors.

I’ve been saying it for years - if you want the flu, be sure to get a flu shot. Nearly everyone I know, including my mom that gets this annual injection ends up with the disease itself. Same thing with that shingles vaccine. I know a LOT of people and have a fairly large family, all of whom had chicken pox growing up, like most of us did. Out of all of them, the only ones that I know that contracted shingles were the ones that had the vaccine that supposedly prevents it. I fear the same just may be true for this Covid injection. And why, pray tell does it require THREE separate shots? Is big pharma so greedy that it couldn’t be accomplished with just one vaccine? I think we all know the answer to that one. I have a cousin that works for Kodak here in Ohio. Part of her job is frequent trips to and from Japan. She advised every colleague she has and knows there is telling her NOT to get the shots and that a good deal of the “ingredients” they are putting in the vaccine should never be anywhere near a human body, let alone injected into. Think I’ll take my chances and pass on this one as well. GO DODGERS!!!

Obviously a shit load of these guys have died over the last year. So that's been my thinking for a while now. I think Tommy had it. You know Tommy wouldn't want that to get out because of the circumstances surrounding the postgame festivities last year.
