Sandy Koufax turns 85 today. The last five years of his career was the greatest run in history. Met him once & got his autograph at Vero Beach before the move west. Quite the gentleman who took the time to sign just about every item presented to him, despite the fairly rowdy and large crowd that had surrounded him. GO DODGERS!!!

Sandy Koufax turns 85 today. The last five years of his career was the greatest run in history. So sad that Walter Alston destroyed his arm by making him pitch with two days rest and completing the games. But the real beginning of Sandy's end was in 1964 when he was on second. The pitcher, Tony Clonninger, turned and threw to second in a pickoff attempt (pitchers don't steal do they?), Sandy slid safely back to second but on his pitching elbow. I think he came out of that game, but made his next two starts which included a shutout. The morning after the second start, his arm had swollen twice its normal size! THat ended his season in August. THe Dodger bats went to sleep that season and the team finished below .500 and would have even if Sandy had pitched all year.
