Eddie Van Halen lost his long battle with cancer today at the age of 65. A TRUE innovator of how a guitar was played. I remember that summer when a new kid came to town from Florida with long hair, a high end skateboard and a cassette tape that still hadn’t hit the shelves in Cin City.
We marveled at the sounds coming out of our stereos while we drank quarts of any beer we could get our hands on and smoked the local ganj. It was like nothing we had ever heard before and we couldn’t wait to get our hands on the LP & tapes once they hit the record stores.
We ALL aspired to play like him, though very few of us could ever even come close. To this day, he remains in my top three of all time bests and I will remember fondly the many times I had the pleasure of seeing him and the boys (with both Roth and Hagar) command the stage.
