Now 2-2 after opening against the lowly Marlins. Before anyone says so are the Dodgers, EVERYONE improved except us. Well, maybe not the Marlins. Their fire sale was an embarrassment to baseball. They were expected to be the worst team in baseball.
But everyone who counts improved as opposed to us. The Cubs added Morrow & Darvish.

Cubs' Brandon Morrow: Allows game-winning hit in debut
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire
Morrow allowed a walk-off hit to the only batter he faced in Friday's 17-inning, 2-1 loss to the Marlins.
It wasn't the ideal way for Morrow to make his Cubs debut, as he entered the game in the bottom of the 17th inning with runners on first and second and two outs. Morrow promptly allowed a hit to Miguel Rojas, which brought home the winning run. There will be better days ahead for the new Cubs closer, particularly when he's not entering a game with two runners already on base.

Cubs' Yu Darvish: Struggles in Cubs debut
Yu Darvish went 4.1 innings Saturday against the Marlins, allowing five earned runs on five hits and two walks in a no-decision. He struck out four. After posting a 2.79 ERA across 19.1 innings in spring training, this was not the start to the regular season that Darvish was hoping for. The right-hander gave up a two-run homer to Derek Dietrich two batters into the game, which set the tone for the night. Darvish was able to keep the Marlins off the board over the next three innings, but he got into trouble again in the fifth and ultimately got pulled after 102 pitches. He'll look for better results in his next start, which is slated for Friday in Milwaukee.

Although I think Morrow will be fine, I think Darvish isn't any better than Arrieta. That said, their struggles are an interesting story early in the season. Our offense was for 2 days but thankfully they broke out.

It's just a miniscule sample size & I wouldn't have gone into shock if the Dodgers had been swept. The Giants should be an okay team. Their offense hasn't looked good so far. The pieces are there though. It's their pitching that will keep them out of the playoff picture.
The Marlins, however, should suck like a mighty Hoover vacuum cleaner. It took Morrow (the irreplaceable Brandon Morrow) just two pitches to blow that game. He'll be alright in the long run, if he avoids injury. And you're right in that all Darvish does is replace Arrieta. Morrow replaces Davis.

Thinking they sweep as the local nine are REALLY BAD this year. GO DODGERS!!!

Cubs are now 7-7. Yu Darvish is 0-1 w/ a 6.00 ERA & 1.53 WHIP. 15.0 innings pitched in 3 starts. Here's his last one. www.baseball-reference.com/boxes/CHN/CHN201804130.shtmlBrandon Morrow is doing very well after his initial blown save. He wasn't charged with that run. 5 games. 4 innings pitched. 0.00 ERA. 0.75 WHIP. 2 saves. There just haven't been many opportunities for him, despite the greatness of the Cubs' off-season. Tyler Chatwood is 0-2 w/ a 4.91 ERA & 1.82 WHIP. 13 hits & 7 walks in 11.0 innings, covering 2 starts. www.baseball-reference.com/players/gl.fcgi?id=chatwty01&t=p&year=2018He takes the hill tonight against the Cardinals in Chi-town. The Cards are 7-3 on the road. Edit: Actually Morrow didn't get a blown save. He entered a 1-1 tie game in the 17th inning & gave up the winning run, which was charged to Eddie Butler. Butler took the loss. Shame. Butler had thrown 7.0 scoreless innings in relief before that. 90 pitches.

Cubs are now 17-15 / .531 & in 4th place, just like us. AND they're doing it with the help of Brandon Morrow & Yu Darvish. .531 works out to 86-76. Contreras is batting .230, Jason Heyward, .227 & Rizzo .177.
May 7, 2018 7:58 pm Cubs' Yu Darvish: Placed on DL by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire Darvish was moved to the 10-day disabled list Monday with parainfluenza virus.
This move is retroactive to Friday, so Darvish will be eligible to return starting May 14. He's struggled to begin the 2018 season, posting a 6.00 ERA and 1.57 WHIP despite striking out 37 across 30 innings. Darvish will have to wait a bit longer before attempting to collect his first win of the year.

May 5, 2018 10:33 am Cubs' Yu Darvish: Won't get personal catcher by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire Cubs manager Joe Maddon said there are no plans to reunite Darvish with catcher Chris Gimenez, who is currently with Triple-A Iowa, Carrie Muskat of MLB.com reports.
Darvish and Gimenez worked together in Texas, and many thought the latter would make the Opening Day roster as a veteran backup to Willson Contreras. However, the Cubs went with Victor Caratini behind Contreras, keeping the Darvish-Gimenez reunion from happening. Maddon was adamant that Darvish's struggles (6.00 ERA, 1.57 WHIP through six starts) have nothing to do with who's been behind the plate. "Two games ago (against the Brewers), everybody thought it was a nice combo, then Yu had a tough time and now it's the catcher's fault," Maddon said. "It has nothing to do with the catcher." Maddon said instead he wants Darish, who is known for his large repertoire of pitches, to focus on simplifying his approach.

Maybe if he had his personal catcher back he wouldn't tip his pitches as much, what with those slick baseballs & all.

Tyler Chatwood is having one schizophrenic season so far. He's lowered his ERA to 3.31. However, he's allowed 27 walks in 32.2 innings. That wasn't a typo. This gives him a 1.53 WHIP. Which isn't that far off his career mark of 1.49.
Just an awesome winter they had.
