Finally made our way up to Dayton to catch a game at Fifth Third Field, which has sold out EVERY game since opening 20 seasons ago (over 1,000 games).
Very nice little park with concessions that were actually affordable, including 24 oz drafts of over 30 local & national brands. I had a couple Kona Big Waves (been a fan since our first trip to Maui nearly 20 years ago).
Had seats on the first baseline, but the stadium had nets that extended all the way down each side at the field level. Have to say I am NOT a fan of watching a game through netting and my eyes were going goo goo after a few innings.
Walked around the entire park and ended up watching the bulk of the game from the left field porch.
A real pitchers duel with no score after nine. The Loons started the 10th with a runner on 2nd who scored two batters later on a sac fly.
Dragons got the same deal, but couldn’t move their runner to third until a wild pitch on ball three (which allowed the batter to “steal” first).
First and third with two down, but the Loons prevailed.
Odd way to lose a game; but then again, neither one of the two teams were exactly tearing the cover off the ball. Only a couple even reached the warning track.
We might still be there without this new rule the way this game was going.
So to recap - nice stadium, great beer prices, great pitching, little hitting and HATE new netting I fear will be standard equipment in all stadiums in the not too distant future.
No more field level seats for me.
GO DODGERS!!!
