Federer seeded No. 2, Nadal No. 3 at Wimbledon; Serena 11th

WIMBLEDON, England (AP) — Eight-time champion Roger Federer was seeded No. 2 for Wimbledon, one spot ahead of Rafael Nadal, reversing their positions in the ATP rankings and creating a debate about whether the All England Club's seeding system should be changed.
Top-ranked Novak Djokovic, the defending champion, was seeded No. 1 on Wednesday at the grass-court Grand Slam tournament, where recent results on the surface are used to help determine seedings. The other majors do not do that.
Nadal told a Spanish TV station that he doesn't think it makes sense that Wimbledon is the only tournament that uses its own seeding system. Former U.S. Davis Cup captain Patrick McEnroe and former player and coach Brad Gilbert tweeted that they thought Nadal should have been seeded No. 2.
The ATP's top 32 men are seeded at Wimbledon, but the order is based on a formula that gives players additional credit for ranking points earned at tournaments played on grass over the preceding two years. That allowed Federer, who won his 10th title at Halle, Germany, last week, to jump ahead of Nadal, who potentially could have to beat both Djokovic and Federer to win what would be his third championship at Wimbledon.

Nick Kyrgios says he deliberately tried to hit Rafael Nadal with ball at Wimbledon, won't apologize
Scott Gleeson 1 hr ago
Nick Kyrgios admitted to attempting to hit Rafael Nadal with a ball during their heated Wimbledon match Thursday and said he won't be saying sorry to the 18-time Grand Slam champion. "Why would I apologize? I mean, the dude has got how many Slams, how much money in the bank account?" Kyrgios told reporters at a post-match news conference. "I think he can take a ball to the chest, bro. I'm not going to apologize to him at all."
Nadal held on to beat Kyrgios 6-3, 3-6, 7-6 (5) 7-6 (3) and advance to the third round at the All England Club. During the third set of the match, Kyrgios aimed a forehand at his opponent's chest but Nadal was able to deflect it with his racket before glaring back at Kyrgios.
"I don't say Nick does this stuff to bother the opponent, but (it) is true that sometimes he's dangerous," Nadal told reporters. "When he hit the ball like this, (it) is dangerous for a line referee, dangerous for a crowd. ... I know he's a big, talented player, but I know when you hit this kind of ball, the ball can go anywhere. (The ball) almost hit me, no problem. I am professional, so I know how to avoid this. But another one, the ball goes straight to the back. So (it could've) been dangerous moment for the line umpire. That ball hits an eye or something like this, (it becomes) a problem."
Kyrgios and Nadal have developed an intense rivalry over the years and Kyrgios spent much of Thursday's match venting in frustration, at one point calling a chair umpire "a disgrace."
Kyrgios felt Nadal was getting preferential treatment.
"I'm serving, I'm like starting my routine. Rafa said, 'Stop.' The rule is like, 'Play to the speed of the server.' Why do I have to wait for him to get into his rhythm every time? I got angry at the ref," Kyrgios said. "He's like, 'No, I'll tell him what I want to tell him.' I was like, 'Oh, a little bit of a power trip there.' He obviously feels pretty important sitting up in the chair. He was just terrible. I thought the way he handled the match was just bad."
Nadal faces Jo-Wilfried Tsonga in Wimbledon's third round Saturday.

Was at the doctor's office. Roger has taken a 7-6 (7-3), 1-6, 6-3, 2-1 lead so far. I guess he tanked the second set after falling behind early. That's smart. Not like Andre Agassi tanking. Andre would tank at the drop of a hat. But Federer must know he can't go toe to toe with Rafa for five sets. If you fall far behind in one set, save your energy for the next one.

This is an all time great Wimbledon final. These two dinosaurs (in tennis years) are battling to the end. Federer leads 8-7 in the fifth & final set.
