Don’t forget Joan allowing the Snakes to tie it up in the eighth. Another loss on the pen. Just imagine having Kenley and Kimbrel for the eighth and ninth every night. I know it’s not going to happen - but a boy can dream, can’t he? GO DODGERS!!! Only took Alexander 4 pitches to piss away all that good work. I took it for granted we all knew Baez would be one of the saboteurs. Just another bizarre decision by Doc. Maeda was only at 70 pitches - why not let him throw another inning or two? Roberts reasoning was he didn’t want the AZ lefty heavy lineup seeing Kenta a third time. Why not? A starter should be able to go more than five innings and get thru a lineup more than twice, which Maeda has done way more times than not. Okay - so even if one agrees with THAT odd conclusion, he then brings in Urias - one of our two “supposed” long relievers. All Julio does is throw two scoreless, with no hits, walks and three K’s. How about another inning out of him? Does two innings seem like “long relief” to ANYONE here? Give Urias the eighth AND ninth the way he was throwing! Of course, Doc would’ve elected for our “savior” Jansen to close it out and who knows how that might have turned out. Instead - he opts for Joan in the eighth who everyone and their brother knew would blow the lead. After that, it was just a matter of time. So the pen blows another and now owns at least half of our 20 losses. Just imagine our record if they were even mediocre? 53 - 10 in early June would be nuts. GO DODGERS!!!

So we missed out on Kimbrel - that’s a damn shame. I can’t believe LA couldn’t come up with $45 or even $50 mil over three years for this guy, salary cap be damned! We gave $25 mil to that POS Kelly and we’ve all seen his results.
Pollack has been on the IL for half the year (so far) - which more than a few here predicted. And he wasn’t exactly tearing it up when he was playing.
I know Kimbel wanted to close and so did Jansen. But this is a TEAM sport and you play for the good of the TEAM, not your own personal stats.
I’d have told both of them that they would share eighth and ninth inning duties depending on the opposing team and lineup. NO pitcher can close every single night and both would have plenty of opportunities.
Jansen is only signed thru this year and isn’t the same fireballer he once was. If he wasn’t happy with his role on the TEAM, I’d would have let him walk in 2020.
But, alas - another “big name” player goes elsewhere. Can someone again please explain to me the whole purpose of that early salary dump trade with Cincinnati?
So far, all I’ve seen out of it is an oft injured CF and an overpaid four plus ERA reliever. As an added bonus, we get to pay $20 MILLION for a guy to pitch on another team (and another five next year).
Yes - we have the best record in baseball. But there’s no way in hell you’ll convince me Kimbrel wouldn’t have made this team, and ESPECIALLY the Cirque d’ LA bullpen better.
GO DODGERS!!!

Some names that the team might want to check in on that have at least 1 more year under contract are: 1. Brad Hand-- 18 saves/ 36 strikeouts/ 0.78 WHIP 2. Sean Doolittle-- 13 saves/ 33 strikeouts/ 1.28 WHIP 3. Felipe Vazquez-- 14 saves/ 42 strikeouts/ 1.15 WHIP The trouble Jansen is that he can opt to stay with the team another two years and earn an extra $38 million beyond this year.

It still boggles the mind LA couldn’t (or maybe wouldn’t) come up with basically that SAME amount to sign one of the premier closers in the majors. Even if Jansen would have optioned in next season (which is now a fairly likely scenario), do you mean to tell me he and Kimbrel couldn’t have split the closing duties and likely ended up with 35 - 40 EACH? And I think we’re all STILL waiting for that “big name” signing we were promised this off season. Imagine we’re going to be waiting for that one awhile, if EVER! GO DODGERS!!!

Yep, just like the WS last fall when Roberts pulled Hill after 71 pitches, and he was going strong. I'm sick of the rationale "a lefty hitter is coming up so let's get a lefty pitcher in there", and then the rood caves in. If a pitcher is doing great, why mess with chemistry? With all that said, Baez and Alexandar deserve criticism for blowing the game at least as much. I want to see Honeycutt pull pitchers! Who knows whether or not he and Roberts argue about how to handle them? Honey, having had a good career as a pitcher, knows a thing or two better than Roberts. We MUST have better relievers, no two ways about it! I like Baez (he's usually reliable), Urias, Jansen and Strip, but the others are bushers. One good outing and one or two bad ones wont' cut it. This fall, when Jansen can walk, should he stay or should he go? I heard that Denis Santana could be a closer someday at any rate. We might have to delve into the FA pool.

I think it depends on if he can continue to progress with his “reinvention” (much like Kershaw). He’s never going to throw in the high 90’s again, but if he can keep throwing the slider and curve, that cutter is going to look like 100 mph to a lot of hitters. He needs to cut down on the bleacher balls (especially in one or two run games). And if remains effective 90% of the time, he may opt out of those final two years and test his toe in the free agency waters. But if he continues to be on again, off again, giving up moon shots to .200 hitters, he will undoubtedly accept the $38 million LA is on the hook paying him for 2020 and 2021. GO DODGERS!!!

Would LOVE to have Brad Hand. Problem with him is Cleveland would have to fall out of the race first & Jose Ramirez hasn't even started to hit yet. He also has such a team friendly contract the Indians would be insane to let him go for anything less than an overwhelming package. Brad Hand lhp 3 years/$19.75M (2018-20), plus 2021 option 3 years/$19.75M (2018-20), plus 2021 club option signed extension with San Diego 1/15/18, replacing 1 year, $3.6M deal signed 1/12/18, avoiding arbitration $1.75M signing bonus Brad has a 1.05 ERA right now. 36 K's in 25.2 innings. Kenley would go back to being the setup man.

If getting another skilled closer puts Kenley off so much, bye. Hate to say that too because I like the guy. He's already getting paid like a closer. What's the problem?

Kelly with another scoreless inning. Guess if LA can continue to get him into games with five plus run leads, maybe he’ll eventually get that ERA down closer to his career four. Stellar!!!

Seems like I might have heard Doolittle has been getting raked lately. Not sure where or if it’s even true.

GO DODGERS!!! www.baseball-reference.com/players/gl.fcgi?id=doolise01&t=p&year=2019May 16th, May 22nd, May 24th, & June 7th. Those performances made his ERA jump from 0.95 to 3.62. Now it's 3.58. No idea if its mechanical or something is physically wrong.

He’ll fit right in with the Ringling gang already there, Gotta give Joan and Jansen props today. Kenley actually looked like Kenley of old, getting two K’s and a FO on minimal pitches. GO DODGERS!!!

They did it again today but for the final inning. You can bet fans are talking about their pen as much as we are about ours.
