My local library has great sales on donated books. Don't know if every one does the same thing. 50 cents for donated paperback books. $1.00 for hardcovers. I've gotten a few of each, in pretty much mint condition. Picked up one on Pete Maravich recently. Anyone else remember him? www.sports-reference.com/cbb/players/pete-maravich-1.htmlHe averaged better than 40 points a game during his collegiate career. Of course having your father as your coach helps. But Pete was still supremely talented. www.basketball-reference.com/players/m/maravpe01.htmlHe was 6'-5", which at that time made him a pretty darn big guard. He wasn't overpowering like Oscar Robertson though. He was flashy & his game was more finesse than brute strength. He was too skinny to bulldoze anyone. www.basketball-reference.com/boxscores/197702250NOJ.htmlI remember reading about this game in the sports pages. 68 points. No three pointers back then. He led the league in scoring that year. www.basketball-reference.com/boxscores/197703200LAL.htmlThis might be the one where Chick Hearn got almost rhapsodic in his praise of Pistol Pete. 46 points & 7 rebounds against the Lakers. His team scored 95 points over all. The argument can be made great players make their teammates better. However, look at that roster & who do you think Pete could have made better? They sucked. This was the game after he dropped 51 on the Suns. Maravich ranks right up there with Kobe Bryant, Michael Jordan & Bernard King as among the most explosive players I ever saw.

Kevin Durant joining Knicks reportedly a ‘done’ deal
There has been an overabundance of speculation that Kevin Durant will leave the Golden State Warriors this coming offseason in free agency.
Many insiders believe the superstar’s preferred destination is the New York Knicks. Now comes word that Durant joining the Knicks is a “done” deal.
Bleacher Report’s Ric Bucher, making an appearance on “The Herd with Colin Cowherd,” laid out what he’s hearing about Durant heading to the Big Apple.
“From everything I’ve heard, it’s done. Yes, he’s leaving,” Bucher said, as transcribed by NBC Sports Bay Area. “It’s not a matter of not liking or appreciating what he has. But being there, I can tell you that Kevin Durant has never been fully embraced by the Warriors faithful. And has never, from even a national perspective, been given the just due that you would expect for a guy who has been the NBA Finals MVP of their last two championships. It’s still Steph’s team. It’s still Steph, Klay, Draymond. KD thanks for coming along and helping us win these last two. He’s never gotten the just deserts.”
Bucher goes on to surmise that Durant wants to go someplace where he’ll be a “centerpiece,” which certainly would be the case with the Knicks.
A report from Bleacher Report’s Howard Beck also suggests that Kyrie Irving is “likely” to join his pal Durant in New York. That certainly seems like a distinct possibility given that the two reportedly text or talk every day.
Durant has been railing against the notion he’s headed to the Knicks all season. That said, so much can change on the free-agency landscape in an instant — not to mention how the Warriors fare in the postseason before that potentially playing a role — so until it’s literally a “done” deal, anything can happen.

"But being there, I can tell you that Kevin Durant has never been fully embraced by the Warriors faithful." What faithful? proxy.espn.com/nba/attendance?sort=allAvgproxy.espn.com/nba/attendance?year=2010&sort=allAvgproxy.espn.com/nba/attendance?year=2009&sort=allAvg What faithful? They didn't start to show up until the Warriors got good. Friscoites thought of the Warriors what Orange County used to think of Los Angeles. Except for the Lakers, of course. 'Dirty Oakland.' Now they embrace the Warriors as their own. Frontrunners.

Leave it to the NBA to have a celebration parade and gathering disrupted by several idiots carrying and shooting guns, injuring four.
And in Toronto, Canada, of all places! Weren’t we told on the old board by a certain proclaimed expert that things like that could and would NEVER happen in Canada because of their strict gun laws and overall more peaceful nature?
His opinions (especially regarding American politics) never failed to stoke the fires of more than a few there and here. I think we all knew he was completely full of 💩!

He probably waved at the American gun runners crossing the border the same way he waves at the Canadian drug smugglers passing their junk into the U.S.

Giannis Antetokounmpo gets $45.6 million a year for five years bouncing and shooting an orange ball through an orange hoop for around five months a year.
Probably another $20 - $30 million annual in endorsements.
Again - I have to ask - how much is enough?

K. C. Jones died today. On Christmas. That always seems particularly sad. He was 88 & living in a nursing home.
I don't remember his playing career. He was briefly as assistant coach with the Lakers. But he can best be remembered as coach of the Celtics. He was head coach when Kevin McHale clotheslined Kurt Rambis. So I didn't like him
RIP.

God, I hate the fucking NBA.
Warriors / Celtics on. Tied game. Closing minutes & then into overtime. 12 out of 13 shots were three pointers. All were bricked. Finally there was a steal & dunk.
Tied game. No one was playing catchup. There just aren't any plays run anymore. It's LAZY.

Saw a dude had made a parlay bet last year for $100 that the Rangers would win the World Series (they did), the Chiefs would repeat as Super Bowl champs (they did) and Oklahoma City would win the NBA title.
The payout would have been $1.7 million.
Supposedly he was offered $250k by the betting app and $400k by another individual.
Watched the OK City game last night. Dude must be kicking himself for not taking either offer.
Pretty sure I’d have taken the $250k. The NBA is FAR TOO much of a crapshoot and the refs can be a huge factor in the way they call games.
