Netflix recently released season 4 of Narcos, this time highlighting the beginning of the Mexican drug war. The highlight of this season is the Guadalajara Cartel and its creator, the Jefe de Jefes Miguel Angel Felix Gallardo. Felix Gallardo was a former cop in Sinaloa who along with Rafael Caro Quintero devised a new seedless type of weed, growing it in the middle of the desert in order to avoid cross pollination. The series also highlights the corruption of law enforcement, on both sides of the border and highlights the involvement of high ranking political figures on the payroll of the cartels. The series also does a good job of introducing future heavy hitters in the Narco world such as Joaquin "El Chapo" Guzman, Hector "El Huero" Palma Salazar, The Arrellano-Felix brothers of the Tijuana Cartel and Amado Carrillo Fuentes "The Lord of the Skies".
I feel the story started off a little bit on the slow side but the evolution of the Felix Gallardo character was well worth it. It appears they are taking their time with this one, introducing new characters for possible future seasons and setting up alot of future story lines. What they covered was only the beginning of the drug war and covers events that were 33 years ago. There is plenty more material and an endless amount of storylines that they can incorporate into the series. One things that I didn't like was that there was no mention of Ismael "El Mayo" Zambada who in reality is the one running the show now a days. He has always keep a low profile and perhaps that is why not alot is known about him but in all fairness, he is the brains of the Sinaloa Cartel and ts true leader.
That is it for the spoilers. Being that my family descends form Sinaloa (home of all the OG Narcos and the Sicily of Mexico), I have followed the Cartels a bit closely and have done alot of reading about them. I was happy with the series and as they mentioned, it was only the beginning of the current drug war. There is alot more coming and I can't wait for season 5.
