It makes no sense that a team that has the best pitching in the league and has scored the 2nd most runs should be but 11 games over .500 so late in the season. Sure, we've led the bigs annually in players on the DL, but so did we last year and we won 104 games. We lead the NL in run differential with +126. Our fielding is 11th in the league, so there's that too.
Our biggest weakness is our bullpen. It started the season off shaky, especially with Wilmer Font having his MLB debut at age 27, but he blew several leads till we DFA'd him. Jansen started the season shaky also, the the rest of the bullpen had a hard time holding leads till about the second third, when it calmed down and Jansen was doing his job right. Then he had his heart problems and no one else seemed capable of filling in at the closer position, especially Alexander and Chargois.
Turning points such as a new month have turned many a team around. We need to have a blazing hot September to justify a division win. I don't believe in the wild card cos it allows a second rate team to get in the playoffs very often and they just happen to win when it counts most. The Yanks and A's are having great seasons and would be leading most other divisions, so they're the exceptions. Jansen's save last nite should revive his confidence, so this last month should be his turning point also.
With all the great talent on this team, if we don't win the division outright with at least 90 wins, WE DON'T DESERVE TO MAKE THE PLAYOFFS.

I would add our situational hitting has been putrid.

I would add our situational hitting has been putrid. Anyone know how to find what the current team BA is with RISP? I tried to find the stat on-line but was unsuccessful. I opined yesterday that it might be in the .100’s / liow .200’s, but that was just a guess. I did see where we are near the top (or is it bottom?) of the board for runners left on base (nearly four) per game. To tell you the truth, that number seemed a bit low. Let’s keep this good mojo (sorry - no dancing banana) going and sweep the Mutts. GO DODGERS!!!

I think this was what I was looking at when I stated they were near the top / bottom with nearly four. But I’m still trying to find the overall team batting average with RISP. I saw an article in the LA Times stating they were right around average at .245, but that was back in early July before the break. I would guess it’s more than a few points lower than that now with the way we played coming out of the break and even winning the last three against the Snakes, as you stated, our situational hitting was 💩💩💩.

Thanks. Don't know how I missed that. Good info to have. Yet we lead the NL in runs scored. Baseball is indeed a funny game.

Things are surely looking up! The Cardinals swept us at home not long ago, and we've beaten them three straight in their home and trying for a 4th. The D-Backs look like they're dropping out of the race and the Rockies are slumping and we're getting hot.
But before anyone pops the champagne, remember who we play the last three games: the Giants. Though they won't win the division or wild card, they can do the next best thing: be the spoiler. Down through the long time rivalry, we've played spoiler for each other, and they could do it again this year if the Rockies get hot again and the division winner isn't decided by game 158. It'll be an interesting last 13 games.

Stop me if you’ve heard / seen this before:
Team scores 17 runs on six hits taking their third straight against a formidable and contending team in their home park in a nationally televised afternoon affair.
By the end of the day, they lead their division by a half game and are a full game up for the second wildcard.
Same team manages only two hits and zero runs through six the very next night, also to a national television audience.
Could end up back in second a half game out and tied for that wildcard spot, which they would lose if it came down to them and the dirty birds, St. Louis holding a 4 - 3 advantage head to head.
Would a sweep have killed them? Must take advantage of this next homestand and put the final dagger in the Rox & Snakes. Just say no to the wildcard!
GO DODGERS!!!

_______
head to head won't matter to decide final wild card spot. it would matter in deciding who has home field for a one game playoff to decide who gets to play the wild card game.

Thanks for the correction, dog. I must’ve misheard or misconstrued what the announcers said when watching that series over the weekend. If we take care of business at home this week, it becomes a moot point, which I’m sure all of us will welcome. GO DODGERS!!!

Schedule is favorable, need to take care of business these next 2 days for sure though.
After that we have SD for 3, at Arizona for 3 and at SF for 3.
Colorado has at Arizona for 3, vs. Philly for 4 and vs. Wash for 3. They may miss Nola vs. Philly but they should see Scherzer the last weekend.
