The Reds are trying to make a case for not being the worst team in the National League. At the Dodgers' expense they are. Cincy won it's third game in a row last night. Also at the Dodgers' expense. They're now 11-27 / .289 & in last place in the NL Central, 11.5 games behind the Cardinals.

The Dodgers collected 4 singles (2 by Chase Utley) in their 4-1 loss. Both Baez & Hudson gave up runs out of the pen. Not that 1 run is going to win you a lot of games. All told, it wasted another fine performance by Walker Buehler. The Dodgers are 4-5 in May, & 5-11 over their last 16 games. They're 16-21 / .432 overall, 8.0 behind Arizona & just 3.0 games ahead of the Padres. They're a blazing 8-10 at home.

Matt Harvey, RHP

The newly acquired right-hander will make his Reds debut on Friday at Dodger Stadium. Cincinnati acquired Harvey in a trade with the Mets on Tuesday that sent catcher Devin Mesoraco and cash to New York. He has a 7.00 ERA over 27 innings this season.

Reds' Scooter Gennett: Homers for third straight game

Gennett went 3-for-4 with a solo home run, a double and three RBI as the Reds topped the Dodgers 4-1 on Thursday.

It was a slow start to the season in the power department for Gennett but he seems to have worked his way out of that as this eighth-inning blast off Daniel Hudson was good for his third long ball in his last three games. The recent power surge now has his slash line up to .301/.345/.485 through 136 at-bats and his .830 OPS is starting to creep closer to the .873 mark he put up in his career-best campaign of last season.

Reds' Raisel Iglesias: Picks up fifth save against Dodgers

Iglesias got the save against the Dodgers on Thursday, striking out three without allowing a baserunner over 1.1 innings in the Reds' 4-1 victory.

It was just the fifth save of the year for the Cincinnati closer but that's been due to a lack of opportunities as much as anything, as he has a 1.50 ERA and a 0.89 WHIP in his 18 innings of work. Playing on a last-place Reds team will probably continue to inhibit his upside in that way even if he does continue to post solid ratios.

Reds' Tyler Mahle: Picks up win against Dodgers

Mahle (3-4) got the win against the Dodgers on Thursday, scattering three hits and allowing one unearned run over five innings, striking out two and walking four as the Reds eventually prevailed 4-1.

It's not all that often a pitcher can lay claim to a victory in an outing where they walk double the batters they strike out, but that's exactly what Mahle did in this contest, as he did well to limit the damage against the Dodgers despite needing 109 pitches to make it through the five innings. This certainly wasn't his most efficient outing but Mahle's numbers on the season are still respectable, as he's now got a 3.86 ERA, a 1.26 WHIP and a 44:15 K:BB through 44.1 innings. The 23-year-old is slated to take the mound next against the Giants on Tuesday.

Reds' Matt Harvey: Reds debut set for Friday

Harvey will join the Reds' rotation and start Friday against the Dodgers, John Fay of the Cincinnati Enquirer reports.

The newly acquired Harvey won't have to wait long to make his Reds debut as he'll toe the rubber just days after being sent over from the Mets. Harvey pitched his way out of the Mets' rotation earlier this season after notching a 6.0 ERA and a 1.43 WHIP through four starts, and his time coming out of the bullpen didn't net positive results, either. Harvey's fastball velocity has also tailed off this season, dropping from nearly 94 miles per hour in 2017 to 92.6. He'll be making his Reds debut in a pitcher-friendly park against a Dodgers' lineup that's been inconsistent to start the year.

Dodgers' Walker Buehler: Continues to impress

Buehler (2-1) got the loss against the Reds on Thursday, giving up two earned runs on five hits over six innings, striking out eight with no walks as the Dodgers fell 4-1.

Buehler couldn't quite match the feat of his combined no-hitter against the Padres in his last start but the 23-year-old was impressive again against Cincinnati despite not receiving enough help from his offense to put him in line for the win. It' still early to be fully anointing him a go-to fantasy option but the rookie certainly looks like the real deal, with a 1.64 ERA, a 1.00 WHIP and a 27:7 K:BB to his name through 22 innings. His rotation spot can be considered secure and he's scheduled to take the mound again in a road matchup against Miami next Wednesday.

Dodgers' Andrew Toles: Suffers minor setback

Toles (hamstring) recently suffered a minor setback in his rehab, J.P. Hoornstra of the Los Angeles Daily News reports.

Toles' hamstring injury continues to hamper him and the recent setback puts him further away from even being considered for a call-up by the Dodgers. Though the setback was reportedly minor, it's unclear when Toles will be able to resume baseball activity.

Dodgers' Clayton Kershaw: Throws again Thursday

Dodgers' Logan Forsythe: Starting rehab assignment over weekend

Both Forsythe and Justin Turner (wrist) are ready to start rehab assignments over the weekend, which means the infield is close to being back to full strength minus Corey Seager. Forsythe's impending return will lessen the need for Chase Utley to see regular playing time at second base. That said, Forsythe's nearly month-long absence means that he'll likely need a few rehab games before being activated.

Dodgers' Justin Turner: Starting rehab assignment over weekend

Turner (wrist) is expected to be sent on a rehab assignment over the weekend, Ken Gurnick of MLB.com reports.

The Dodgers are getting close to having two established veterans back with the club as Turner and Logan Forsythe (shoulder) are ready for rehab assignments. Turner has been sidelined since spring training due to a broken wrist, so his return should bring a spark to the Dodgers' lineup. Given the length of his absence, Turner will likely need multiple rehab games before being activated. Max Muncy and Kyle Farmer will continue to split time at third base in the meantime.

Dodgers' Joc Pederson: Seeing starts versus righties

Pederson started in center field and batted second Thursday, going 0-for-2 with a walk and a run scored in a loss to the Reds.

The Dodgers have been decimated by injuries in the early going, but even with Yasiel Puig returning to the lineup this week, Pederson continued his string of starts in center against right-handed starters. Manager Dave Roberts stated that Enrique Hernandez would take over center field duties, with Chris Taylor filling in for Corey Seager (elbow) at short, but his lineup cards over the past couple of weeks indicate that Pederson is on the strong side of a platoon. Seager has already been ruled out for the season, so this window of playing time could stay open for a lengthy period of time, making the 26-year-old a decent flier for power and counting stats.
