Cincinnati Reds @ Los Angeles Dodgers Thursday, May 10, 7:10 PM PT, Dodger Stadium TV: SportsNet LA, SNLA Spanish Radio: AM 570 LA Sports, KTNQ 1020 The Dodgers managed to take the last game of the two game set against Arizona in a fun filled slop-fest. 2 errors, a combined 11 walks, a hit batter & 3 wild pitches. They're now 4-8 versus Arizona this year. They're 16-20 / .444 overall & still in 4th place in the NL West, 8.0 games behind the Dbacks. They're 4-4 in May. They've averaged 3.6 runs scored this month. They've given up 28, for an average of 3.5. It doesn't get much more mediocre than that. BUT, how bad can it get? Cincy is 10-27 / .270 & in dead last in the NL Central, 11.5 games behind the Cardinals. They're won their last 2 in a row though. Tyler Mahle, RHP Fastball location has been an issue for Mahle, who has allowed 9 homers in 39 1/3 IP, including 2 in a loss to the Marlins on Saturday. Mahle, who'll make his 1st start at Dodger Stadium, leads MLB in strikeouts among pitchers age 23 or younger. www.baseball-reference.com/players/m/mahlety01.shtmlwww.baseball-reference.com/players/gl.fcgi?id=mahlety01&t=p&year=2018Been pretty hot lately. www.baseball-reference.com/play-index/batter_vs_pitcher.cgi?request=1&submitter=1&pitcher=mahlety01&min_year_game=2017&max_year_game=2018&post=1&opp_id=LAD&bats=any&c1gtlt=gt&c2gtlt=gt&orderby=PA&orderby_dir=desc&orderby_second=Name&orderby_dir_second=ascThe Dodgers have never faced him. www.brooksbaseball.net/pfxVB/pfx.php?month=5&day=5&year=2018&game=gid_2018_05_05_miamlb_cinmlb_1%2F&pitchSel=641816&prevGame=gid_2018_05_05_miamlb_cinmlb_1%2F&prevDate=55&league=mlbHe can bring it when hew wants to. He averaged 92.8 mph on his fastball in his last start, but hit 97.3. He throws a change & a slider too. www.fangraphs.com/statss.aspx?playerid=16358&position=PHe hasn't been a groundball pitcher. Walker Buehler, RHP Not that he’s got a tough act to follow, but Buehler is coming off six innings of a combined no-hitter in Mexico. And he’s got another soft spot, as the Reds will be the third last-place team he’s faced in four starts. www.baseball-reference.com/players/b/buehlwa01.shtmlwww.baseball-reference.com/players/gl.fcgi?id=buehlwa01&t=p&year=2018www.baseball-reference.com/boxes/SDN/SDN201805040.shtmlwww.baseball-reference.com/play-index/batter_vs_pitcher.cgi?request=1&submitter=1&pitcher=buehlwa01&min_year_game=2017&max_year_game=2018&post=1&opp_id=CIN&bats=any&c1gtlt=gt&c2gtlt=gt&orderby=PA&orderby_dir=desc&orderby_second=Name&orderby_dir_second=ascNaturally he's never faced the Reds. For some reason I can't pull up his last game in Mexico at Brooks. www.fangraphs.com/statss.aspx?playerid=19374&position=P63.9% on the grounders. That's amazing. Lot of pop-ups too. He throws his fastball 64% of the time & it averages 96.1 mph. He also throws a slider & curve. cincinnati.reds.mlb.com/stats/sortable.jsp?c_id=cin#elem=%5Bobject+Object%5D&tab_level=child&click_text=Sortable+Player+hitting&game_type='R'&season=2018&season_type=ANY&league_code='MLB'§ionType=sp&statType=hitting&page=1&ts=1525974799876 losangeles.dodgers.mlb.com/stats/sortable.jsp?c_id=la#elem=%5Bobject+Object%5D&tab_level=child&click_text=Sortable+Player+hitting&game_type='R'&season=2018&season_type=ANY&league_code='MLB'§ionType=sp&statType=hitting&page=1&ts=1525974849899 www.baseball-reference.com/teams/CIN/2018.shtmlFor such a lousy team, they have some good pieces in their bullpen. May 9, 2018 9:10 pm Reds' Adam Duvall: Crushes walkoff homer Wednesday by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire Duvall hit a walkoff homer in his only at-bat Wednesday against the Mets.
Duvall entered the game in the ninth inning as part of a double switch and ended things in the bottom of the 10th with what was the first walkoff blast of his career. Hopefully this will help get the 29-year-old going at the plate, as he's hitting just .176/.261/.395 through 36 games to start the season, though he does have six homers.

May 9, 2018 8:51 pm Reds' Raisel Iglesias: Picks up first win by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire Iglesias (1-0) picked up the win Wednesday against the Mets, striking out three across two scoreless innings.
Iglesias was able to keep the score knotted at 1-1 with a pair of perfect innings before Adam Duvall ended things with a walkoff homer to give the reliever his first win of the season. While the 28-year-old hasn't been afforded many save opportunities for the lowly Reds -- he's just 4-for-5 this season -- he's still able to provide fantasy value with his impressive ratios (1.62 ERA, 0.96 WHIP and 10.3 K/9).

May 9, 2018 6:55 pm Reds' Sal Romano: Fans seven in quality outing Wednesday by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire Romano didn't factor into the decision Wednesday against the Mets, allowing one run on four hits and a walk while striking out seven batters across six innings.
Romano was sharp throughout this one, tossing 62 of his 96 pitches for strikes en route to notching his third quality start of the season. The 24-year-old now owns a solid 2.33 ERA and 1.07 WHIP over his past five starts after struggling to a 6.46 ERA and 1.70 WHIP across his first three outings. While his seven strikeouts marked a season-high, his K/9 still sits at an unremarkable 5.3 through eight starts (42.1 innings). Up next for Romano is a road start against the Giants.

May 9, 2018 12:43 pm Reds' Matt Harvey: Expected to join rotation by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire Reds GM Dick Williams said Tuesday that he expects Harvey to join the rotation, but no final decision has been made, C. Trent Rosecrans of The Athletic reports.
After the Mets DFA'd Harvey, the Reds swung a deal to bring the right-hander to Cincinnati. It's an ambitious reclamation project for the Reds, who will hope to rebuild Harvey's value over the next two and a half months and get something for him at the trade deadline. Harvey threw a 60-pitch bullpen session Tuesday and could theoretically start a game this weekend in Los Angeles. Brandon Finnegan seems the most likely candidate to lose his rotation spot if Harvey does indeed step into a starting role.

May 10, 2018 5:27 am Dodgers' Kenley Jansen: Saves sixth game against Diamondbacks by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire Jansen tossed a scoreless ninth for his sixth save Wednesday against Arizona.
Jansen hasn't blown a save since April 17 in San Diego and has allowed just one run on six hits and three walks with seven strikeouts in nine innings since. He needed just nine pitches to close things out Wednesday night. It was a slow start for Jansen -- he owned an 8.10 ERA and 1.65 WHIP after that last blown save -- but he looks to be rounding back into his old form.

May 10, 2018 5:13 am Dodgers' Alex Wood: Gives up one run in no-decision against Diamondbacks by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire Wood gave up a run on five hits and three walks with four strikeouts through five innings in a no-decision Wednesday against Arizona.
Despite having an entirely fine season -- Wood has just three quality starts, but has allowed more than three runs just twice in eight outings -- Wood remains winless in 2018. His wildness caught up to him Wednesday, as he needed 94 pitches to get through five innings thanks in large part to three walks and just 12 first-pitch strikes to 22 hitters. Wood deserves far better than an 0-3 record, though, and he'll get another chance to prove it Tuesday against Miami.

May 9, 2018 8:22 pm Dodgers' Justin Turner: Eying return next weekend by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire Turner (wrist) is hoping to return from the disabled list during next week's series against the Nationals, which begins Friday, Bill Shaikin of the Los Angeles Times reports.
Turner was originally hoping to return during next week's series against the Marlins, which begins Tuesday, but he told David Vassegh of AM 570 LA Sports that he still needs to check off a couple of boxes before being activated, so the following series against the Nationals now seems to be a more likely return date. He took swings during a simulated game Wednesday and plans to do the same Thursday. In the meantime, Max Muncy and Kyle Farmer will continue to platoon at third base.

May 9, 2018 7:57 pm Dodgers' Yimi Garcia: Shuttled back to minors by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire Garcia was optioned to Triple-A Oklahoma City on Wednesday.
Garcia will head back to the minors in exchange for a fresh bullpen arm after the Dodgers burned through seven relievers during Tuesday's extra-innings loss to the Diamondbacks. The 27-year-old was hit with the loss Tuesday after allowing three runs on two hits and a walk in the 12th inning, raising his ERA to an unsightly 8.10 through 3.1 innings. Garcia should be back with the big club the next time a fresh reliever is needed.

May 9, 2018 7:50 pm Dodgers' Tony Cingrani: Heads to shelf with shoulder injury by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire Cingrani was placed on the 10-day disabled list Wednesday with left shoulder inflammation.
It's unclear when Cingrani picked up the injury, but it's apparently bothersome enough to warrant a stay on the disabled list. He'll be eligible to return May 19, but it's not yet known if the southpaw will be ready to go by then. The 28-year-old owns a 5.79 ERA and 22:4 K:BB through 14 innings this season. Scott Alexander was recalled from the minors in a corresponding move and will serve as the team's primary left-handed reliever while Cingrani is sidelined.

May 9, 2018 7:42 pm Dodgers' Brock Stewart: Brought back to majors by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire Stewart was recalled from Triple-A Oklahoma City on Wednesday.
Stewart will rejoin the Dodgers to offer a fresh bullpen arm after manager Dave Roberts deployed seven relievers during Tuesday's extra-innings loss to the Diamondbacks. The 26-year-old, who owns a 3.38 ERA across 2.2 innings with the big-league club this season, will offer length out of the bullpen during his time in the majors. Yimi Garcia was optioned to Triple-A in a corresponding roster move.

May 9, 2018 7:35 pm Dodgers' Scott Alexander: Back with big club by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire Alexander was recalled from Triple-A Oklahoma City on Wednesday.
Alexander was summoned back to the big club to offer an arm from the left side while Tony Cingrani (shoulder) -- who was sent to the disabled list in a corresponding move -- remains sidelined. The 28-year-old struggled to a 6.35 ERA, 1.85 WHIP and 7:9 K:BB through 11.1 innings with the big club earlier in the year, however, he tossed four scoreless innings with a 5:1 K:BB after being sent to the minors.
Share: Twitter Facebook May 9, 2018 7:04 pm Dodgers' Clayton Kershaw: Plays catch Wednesday by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire Kershaw (biceps) played catch Wednesday, Ken Gurnick of MLB.com reports.
Kershaw landed on the disabled list over the weekend with biceps tendinitis, but a recent MRI revealed he avoided any structural damage. According to Gurnick, the 30-year-old started at 30 feet and worked out to 60 feet, where he threw for about five minutes before calling it quits. While this is certainly an encouraging step for the ace, he remains without a concrete timetable for his return. The current expectation is that Kershaw will be forced to miss more than one turn in the rotation.
Share: Twitter Facebook May 9, 2018 6:49 pm Dodgers' Alex Verdugo: Sent back to minors by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire Verdugo was optioned to Triple-A Oklahoma City on Wednesday, J.P. Hoornstra of the Los Angeles Daily News reports.
Verdugo will head back to the minors in order to clear a spot on the roster for Yasiel Puig (ankle), who was activated from the disabled list in a corresponding move. The top prospect was set to lose a good amount of playing time with Puig returning to action, so the Dodgers opted to send him back to the minors to get everyday at-bats with Oklahoma City. He hit a fine .265/.306/.382 across 37 plate appearances with the big club and should be back at some point this season.

Should absolutely FEAST on these clowns. Worst record in NL & only one off entire league. First time they won two in a row all year (I believe). Let’s not let them take it to three.
No name AAA pitchers, one or two decent hitters (Votto & Jennings) - no reason to keep the brooms in the closet.
Coming off a big win and some late offense over the Snakes last night. No let down after that!
Let’s DO THIS!!!
GO DODGERS!!!

If there's a team to get fat on, this is the team to do it. I know they took 2 out of 3 from the Mets but it looks like the Mets are as big of a dumpster fire than the Reds, or even the Dodgers for that matter. Reds this weekend and the Marlins again next week. The turnaround starts now.

Bill Miller?? Great. I still haven't forgiven him for that awful strike zone in Game 5 of the World Series. That was a disgrace.
