Dodgers' Walker Buehler: Will start Monday vs. Marlins
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire
Buehler will be recalled rom Triple-A Oklahoma City and start Monday's game against the Marlins.
The Dodgers will call upon their top pitching prospect to make a spot start against an exploitable Marlins' lineup. Buehler allowed eight runs over 9.1 innings of relief with the big-league club last season but currently sports a 2.08 ERA and 16:4 K:BB with Oklahoma City this season. He's a valid DFS or streaming option but may not be in the majors long enough to warrant extended roster ownership in season-long formats.

The only issue I have with this is his pitch count.
As I recall He has never pitched 6 innings in his life.

Doc said he's hopeful for 6 innings and 90 pitches. Seems a bit optimistic but we will see..

On 7/31/17 Buehler started and threw 86 pitches in 5 IP. That was the first and only time he ever went over 80 pitches in a game in his professional career.
This year he has made 3 starts. Pitch counts were 72, 73 and 80. That's over 14 IP. He seems to throw a lot of pitches without necessarily walking a lot of guys. 4 BB's and 16 SO's so far this year.

I somehow doubt you were taxing your body the way these guys are.

I don't expect Roberts to push him, and I wouldn't be surprised if he were gone after 4. However, he lasted 5 innings on 73 pitches 2 starts ago. So if he can match that effort (huge if), 6 innings on 90 pitches may not be unobtainable. Certainly wishful, but not obscene. It's obviously likely he will be optioned down immediately after the start, opening up a space for a fresh pen arm and giving the Dodgers a chance to go easy on him on his next start in AAA.

Gonna probably need more than 4 IP from him, especially on Saturday with a doubleheader...

Tonight's game will be very interesting, like he (Buehler) is pitching a rehab game.

Good. He gets more than one chance to acclimate & impress.

I might be making this up, but don't teams get to call in an extra player on double-headers? Perhaps both Buehler and Stewart both pitch in that game?

Probably not, if Stewart has his normal start tomorrow. Unless he just throws a couple innings.
