Mets reliever Jorge López denies calling own team worst in 'whole f---ing MLB' after glove-throwing tirade López threw his glove into the stands after being ejected Wednesday By R.J. Anderson 12 mins ago • 2 min read The New York Mets reliever Jorge López insisted Thursday morning that he had actually meant to insult himself, not his own team, in a heated post-game press conference the night before. López had an eventful Wednesday as part of a 10-3 loss against the Los Angeles Dodgers (box score), surrendering a home run to Shohei Ohtani; chucking his glove into the crowd following an ejection; and then expressing no regret for his actions when speaking to reporters after the game. But the takeaway quote, in which beat reporters said he called the Mets "the worst team in probably the whole f---ing MLB," was wrong, López said Thursday after being asked multiple times to clarify Wednesday night. Instead, he said, he called himself the worst "teammate," he posted on Instagram. López's trouble began when he took over for Adam Ottavino in the top of the eighth inning. He subsequently surrendered a double to Miguel Vargas and induced a fly out from Mookie Betts before giving up a home run to Ohtani that made the score 9-3. López thought he had generated a swinging strike from Freddie Freeman that would've made the count 2-2; instead, third-base umpire Ramon De Jesus insisted Freeman had held up, giving him a 3-1 advantage in the count. López and De Jesus then barked at one another, resulting in De Jesus tossing López from the game. Predictably, López did not take well to that decision. As he exited the field, he chucked his glove over the netting that protects the crowd from foul balls: x.com/SNYtv/status/1795953930406343118?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E1795953930406343118%7Ctwgr%5E16c3d8dde84b8b384ff8f7b39ebc44d9934de74e%7Ctwcon%5Es1_&ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.cbssports.com%2Fmlb%2Fnews%2Fmets-reliever-jorge-lopez-denies-calling-own-team-worst-in-whole-f-ing-mlb-after-glove-throwing-tirade%2FAfter the game, Mets manager Carlos Mendoza labeled López's acts as "not acceptable" and said they would be dealt with internally. López, for his part, said that he didn't regret throwing his glove into the crowd. He then cast doubt upon whether or not he'll remain on the roster. "I'm ready to come back tomorrow if they want me to be here," he said. Instead, the Mets designated López's for assignment Thursday. x.com/SNYtv/status/1795976287409901709?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E1795976287409901709%7Ctwgr%5E16c3d8dde84b8b384ff8f7b39ebc44d9934de74e%7Ctwcon%5Es1_&ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.cbssports.com%2Fmlb%2Fnews%2Fmets-reliever-jorge-lopez-denies-calling-own-team-worst-in-whole-f-ing-mlb-after-glove-throwing-tirade%2FWhen SNY sideline reporter Steve Gelbs asked López to clarify Wednesday night that he intended to call the Mets the worst team in the majors, the pitcher replied by saying, "yeah, probably." He added that he felt his teammates looked embarrassed by his actions. (López later explained that he meant he looked like the worst teammate on the worst team, according to MLB.com's Anthony DiComo.) x.com/SNYtv/status/1795983566083404071?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E1795983566083404071%7Ctwgr%5E16c3d8dde84b8b384ff8f7b39ebc44d9934de74e%7Ctwcon%5Es1_&ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.cbssports.com%2Fmlb%2Fnews%2Fmets-reliever-jorge-lopez-denies-calling-own-team-worst-in-whole-f-ing-mlb-after-glove-throwing-tirade%2FLópez, 31, entered Wednesday with a 3.12 ERA (122 ERA+) and a 1.90 strikeout-to-walk ratio over his first 26 innings this season. It's worth noting that he also had a rough outing on Tuesday, surrendering three runs (two of them earned) in an inning of work against the Dodgers. He received the loss in that decision, his second of the year. The Mets, by the way, have now lost three games in a row and eight of their last nine. Following Wednesday's loss, they're 22-33 on the year, putting them in fourth place in the National League East. It's easy to understand, then, why López may be feeling frustration with both his and his team's performance over recent days. Unfortunately for him, he may have more reason to feel annoyed come Thursday. I saw the interview on MLB-TV. He ABSOLUTELY said the Mutts were the “worst fucking team in the league”. And when the reporter asked him to clarify what he said, he nodded and AGAIN confirmed that statement. OF COURSE, he’s now backtracking and trying to claim he MEANT to say that about HIMSELF, not the team. Funny how quick his story changed after his DFA. Let’s hope the LA brainchild doesn’t do ANOTHER dumpster dive on this clown. Bad pitching aside, dude’s attitude puts him right in line with a new position outside of baseball. Can you say “Welcome to Wal-Mart”? GO DODGERS!!!

Getting shut out at home to a 1 - 7 pitcher with an ERA of five plus.
These guys are like a schizophrenic water spigot. Either red hot or ice cold.
Rocks are 15 games under .500, just like the Redlegs were. Why does LA continue to underperform to bad teams?
Guess they were too busy partying with their bestest buddy skipper on his birthday.
GO DODGERS!!!

It’s deja vu all over again. Bases loaded with nobody out and mighty Mookie GIDP, scoring one run.
I think I saw this live last week only it was Ohtani in the Betts role.
And Freeman K’s to end the threat. Sad - just sad.
GO DODGERS!!!

Dodgers' Clayton Kershaw: Faces hitters Rotowire 1 HR AGO Kershaw (shoulder) threw live batting practice before Saturday's game against the Rockies, Mike DiGiovanna of the Los Angeles Times reports.
Saturday marks the first time Kershaw has faced live hitters after spending the past month throwing bullpen sessions, though he was only able to pitch one simulated inning. He will continue to build up his workload over his next several live BP sessions before heading out on a rehab assignment with one of the Dodgers' minor-league affiliates. Assuming the 36-year-old southpaw doesn't run into any setbacks, he appears in line to return to Los Angeles' rotation in approximately 4-to-6 weeks.

Dodgers' Bobby Miller: Requires another rehab start Rotowire 2 HRS AGO Miller (shoulder) is scheduled for a rehab start Friday with Triple-A Oklahoma City after he allowed four runs on five hits and a walk over 3.1 innings Saturday for Single-A Rancho Cucamonga, Eric Stephen of SBNation.comreports.
Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said Saturday that Miller experienced some reduced velocity, but it doesn't appear to be injury related. The right-hander threw 65 pitches and will continue building up his workload to about five innings as he moves up to the Triple-A level. An additional start after that hasn't been ruled out, but Miller could rejoin the Dodgers if Friday's outing goes to plan.
Dodgers' Shohei Ohtani: Records steal in win Rotowire 10 HRS AGO Ohtani went 1-for-3 with a walk and a stolen base in Saturday's 4-1 win over the Rockies.
Ohtani had gone seven games without a steal, and he hit just .167 (5-for-30) over that span. That's a rare cold spell for one of baseball's best players, who continues to do it all out of the No. 2 hole for the Dodgers. He's at a .326/.395/.604 slash line with 14 home runs, 14 steals, 38 RBI and 41 runs scored over 57 contests.
Dodgers' Andy Pages: Racks up three hits Rotowire 10 HRS AGO Pages went 3-for-4 with two runs scored in Saturday's 4-1 win over the Rockies.
Pages is starting to get things figured out in the majors with three multi-hit efforts over his last four games. That surge has gotten the rookie outfielder back up to a .257 batting average, though his .685 OPS on the year remains middling. He's added five home runs, 17 RBI, 24 runs scored and a stolen base over 40 contests. Pages continues to see a starting role in center field.
Dodgers' Evan Phillips: Gets save in first outing since IL Rotowire 10 HRS AGO Phillips pitched a perfect inning and struck out one to earn the save in Saturday's 4-1 win over the Rockies.
This was Phillips' first appearance in nearly a month due to a hamstring strain. He looked rust-free, throwing 11 pitches (seven strikes) to set down the bottom of the Rockies' order for his ninth save of the season. Phillips has a 0.61 ERA, 0.95 WHIP and 18:4 K:BB over 14.2 innings, and he's yet to take a blown save this year. It doesn't appear he'll be eased into the closer role again, not that he needs to be handled with kid gloves considering his track record in high-leverage spots over the last two years.
Dodgers' Yoshinobu Yamamoto: Cruises to win Rotowire 10 HRS AGO Yamamoto (6-2) allowed a run on seven hits and a walk while striking out seven over six innings to earn the win over the Rockies on Saturday.
Yamamoto bounced back from a loss his last time out with a strong performance. He's earned quality starts in four of his last six outings, allowing 13 runs over 37 innings in that span. The rookie right-hander has a 3.32 ERA, 1.12 WHIP and 76:14 K:BB over 65 innings across 12 starts this season. Yamamoto is projected to make his next start on the road versus the Yankees, which is a formidable matchup.
