Well, we should all be rejoicing right now of our win over the Cardinals last nite, but of course, we're all crying instead. It's humiliating that we won 106 games.
So what do we do? First of all, we have several prospects who are languishing in the minors. Keibert Ruiz is ranked higher than Will Smith, but we needed a catcher with more experience, so now he's on the varsity. Ruiz is a great contact hitter and walks more than he Ks but he's not quite MLB ready. IMHO, we need Barnes as the backup catcher. After all, he's experienced and is like Steve Yeagar: real good catcher but not much of a hitter. We need to shop Ruiz around cos he has no future in our organization.
What about others? Mitch White, Denis Santana, DJ Peters are all stuck at AAA. Their progress have all stalled and it seems they've all risen as high as they can rise, so why not trade them since they're all dead weight?
What are our needs? A new closer for starters. (no pun there!) Or maybe not. Jansen consulted with his mentor, Uncle Charley Huff who's been a pitching coach for several years and had a nice career in his own right. But the rest of the bullpen? Kelly (how could he dominate in the 9th inning and do a 180 in the 10th???), who we never knew what to expect from one game to the next, Scott Alexandar who missed almost the entire season but is a lot like him, need to go. Many of our losses were due to the bullpen. Amazing it ranked 4th in the bigs.
And there's been talk about acquiring Anthony Rendon as our 3Bman. How many years does Turner have left on his contract? And do we sign Ryu in this, his FA year?
There don't seem to be any closers of note eligible for FA, so what do we do there?

I said 106 meant nothing and I was right.
Good job Nationals! Hope you go all the way.
There is no reason to trade Ruiz this season. We've seen that they've held guys down there until it was necessary to bring them up. Plus, there could be an injury to Smith or Smith and Barnes and we're fucked. So there is no need to move him. White and Santana can stay down and will get a chance sometime going forward. Peters is another outfielder that hits for low average with some power and strikeouts a lot, I've heard. No need for another one of those.
If Jansen leaves then there will be a hole to fill and more money to spend. Doubt he leaves. I was down on him towards the end of the season but seeing how this management group and Roberts works no reason to think that he will not be the closer. I'm sure that if he stays he and everyone will work hard to try to fix whatever was wrong.
There is enough bats to not need Rendon. I'm sure there will be suggestions to move Seager again to 3rd, I'm sure Muncy can be moved there, how good he can field it who knows, and there is Edwin Rios too, once JT is done. I would like for them to pursue Gerrit Cole as a guy that throws 97- 98 as opposed to Ryu, who has been great when healthy, but throws 90- 91 like Kershaw.
I see some promotions from within to plug holes and that's a good thing. The best part about everything in 2020 is that we still play the Pads, D'backs, Giants, and Rockies.

Yeah, maybe we don't need Rendon, but if for nothing else, to prevent a team like the Yanks from getting him. And I forgot that Seagar has been considered for 3rd, so how about an infield of Bellinger/Muncy/Lux/Seagar? But I like Cody in the OF better and a good 1Bman isn't hard to get. And Cole is a possibility for our rotation if Hill leaves, but what do you care that Ryu throws in the low 90s if he gets hitters out?

And Cole is a possibility for our rotation, but what do you care that Ryu throws in the low 90s if he gets hitters out? Who cares what the Yankees do. We have things that we need to fix before worrying about what other teams do. We need to fix our bullpen, closer. We need to fix holes that might be vacated in the rotation. We need to fix our offensive philosophy, so good pitching in post- season doesn't shut us down completely. And, with this run that the Nationals are having Rendon might want to stay and they lock him up. I hope they go all the way, they have a good manager in Martinez too. Ryu will be 33 years old. We know that as pitchers get older they lose velocity and Ryu has always had an injury history. It has always been said that strikeout pitchers like Buehler and Cole play up in post- season because they miss bats rather than someone that throws softer like Ryu and Kershaw. Pitchers that miss bats are invaluable rather than those that pitch to contact especially now that the ball seems to be juiced. Ryu had a great season and I am a fan and he may be the Cy Young winner but if he is replaced with someone like Cole then there is nothing to complain about.

Class act hard nosed player and great clubhouse guy. I sure hope that the organization keeps him around in some capacity.

This offseason, they need to go after Rendon and or Cole. The time to be bold is now and those guys are the best that is out there. Turner is slowing down a bit and he can be the super utility guy. Cole solidifies the #1 spot in the rotation. A 1-2 with Buehler would be quite the punch, two solid horses. Something we never got with Chokeslaw.

I'm hearing chatter all over of people and Dustin Nosler wanting to trade Seager to the Indians for Lindor. First, off what would be the point. The Tribe I'm sure will want prospects and the Dodgers are not going to pay $6.6 million more or upwards to Lindor. The Dodgers have shown that they will wait out and try to improve a player, sometimes to a fault. They both have the same two years left of arbitration. What's more perplexing is that Nosler wants to move Lux to short if Seager is traded. I don't see any of that.

Bells didn’t exactly light things up and there’s no talk of moving him. Corey’s biggest problem is staying off the IL. If we can get 125 - 130 games out of him next year, he should be able to stabilize himself at the plate as opposed to this season. Both he and Bells need to go back to basics and plate discipline if either of them is ever going to blossom into the superstars they both have the potential of being. The way that they flail at pitches nowhere near the strike zone is alarming and Bells seemed to be getting better at letting those pitches go, at least earlier in the season. By October, both he and Seager were doing nothing but swinging for the fence on just about every pitch. That needs to be addressed this spring and worked on throughout the regular season. We have an excellent core of players and solid back-ups on the bench. But I (and I’m guessing the players as well) would like to see a lot more consistency in the daily lineups and player positioning. It’s never going to happen with Daisy’s Big Book of Analytics and Platoons, but it certainly would be beneficial for players to know where they were batting and playing in the field the bulk of the time as opposed to the daily changes this current regime insists upon. GO DODGERS!!!

We have plenty of mashers in the lineup, but a possible gaping hole in the rotation with this being Ryu's walk year. I love the kids, but it might not be wise to have too many of them in the rotation. We still have Kershaw of course, but I wonder how he'll bounce back next April after his confidence was shot on back-to-back pitches that ended up in the bleachers.

I think “regular season” Kersh will be much the same as this year as he continues to evolve into a modern day Greg Maddox. And if he can get over his 2019 first inning debacles and cut down on the number of bleacher bombs, maybe even a little better. But he could go 20 - 0 with an ERA under two and I STILL would not trust him in the postseason. That memory of those two HR’s this year is going to stick with him the remainder of his career and his mental game will be shot before he even steps back on that mound. The problem is - what do the Dodgers do with him should they again make it to the 2020 postseason? They almost HAVE to start him in one game each round, possibly two. Up 2 - 0 or 3 - 0 in a series is when I give him the start. But certainly not before or in a deciding game. We’ve already seen that movie too many times and know how it ends. Get Kreskin or a voodoo priest or whatever it takes. He needs to have those memories erased. GO DODGERS!!!

If we are able to land Cole that's one start per round followed by Buehler that's two starts and if one of the kids steps it up that's the third game in post- season and Kershaw can be depended on for just the fourth game. But other teams would have to beat Cole and Buehler and that might be to difficult for them to do. Let's only hope.
