@feinsand The Dodgers’ reported entry into the Harper mix is interesting as it relates to the Giants’ pursuit, though both teams are believed to be interested only in shorter-term deals. According to a source, the Phillies remain the only team talking to Harper about a true long-term deal. Get the Giants to offer $50,000,000 a year.

I don't get the Giants, their roster is old with ineffective hitters and pitchers and a 26th ranked farm as of last year. This is probably Zaidi raising the price or a Boras negotiating tactic against the Dodgers.

After three games, DJ Peters has played in them all. He has great tools and power, though he K's way too much, but they're working with him to shorten his swing, and so far he's hit two homers. So far, he's only K'd once and showed off his RF ability today with a double play. Could management be showcasing him for a trade? I don't see him being a starting RFer with so many experienced players ahead of him and needs more seasoning, but he does have much needed RH power now that Kemp and Puig have moved on.
Thoughts?

Was just looking at Puig's projections. They seem pretty modest for someone who's finally motivated & playing in a bandbox. .259-20-61 / .329 / .458. Only 35 more plate appearances than in 2018.

BREAKING: Third baseman Nolan Arenado and the Colorado Rockies are finalizing an eight-year, contract extension worth more than $255M, league sources tell ESPN. Deal includes an opt-out after three years, would give Arenado the largest per-year salary of any position player. ------------------------------------
Have never liked his numbers away from Coors.

Thoughts? It's good to have players who try all the time Got into a Twitter war with some moron last week about Puig’s “effort”. Dude took the stance that EVERYONE performs at their best when motivated and that he guessed I thought it was okay as long as he (Puig) was “doing it for free”. WTF? Little Piggy has been making double digit millions for years and got a bump to what - $17 mil in arbitration? Not exactly what I’d consider playing “for free”. Not to mention he could be selling cigars in some back alley in Cuba had he not escaped and been able to throw and hit a baseball. All his statement told me was he is a very stupid, arrogant, lazy asshole who didn’t think enough of the team that gave him his big break to give 100% ALL THE TIME! Maybe if he HAD given 100%, he might have learned to hit more than .100 against lefties and wouldn’t have been forced to sit as much as he did last year. I sure as hell haven’t heard or read anything about Joc bitching about playing time & not giving 100% every chance he got / gets. Platooning is a BIG part of this current regime and nobody is going to be immune to it. The days of same lineup / positions every game are LONG GONE and any of these guys that think they’re LOCKED into their projected starting positions and place in the batting order better be prepared to perform as expected. Otherwise, big star or not, they might just as well find themselves watching from the dugout. GO DODGERS!!!

Dodgers not worried about Kershaw's OD status Ace continues to battle sore left shoulder early in camp
By Owen Perkins
SURPRISE, Ariz. -- Four games into the Cactus League season is too early to panic about Clayton Kershaw’s dissatisfaction with the way he feels throwing pitches in practice, but he could quickly approach the point of needing to adjust his schedule enough to affect his plans for a ninth consecutive Opening Day start.
“We have so much depth in our pitching,” manager Dave Roberts said Tuesday, a day after an abbreviated throwing session for the left-handed ace because of a sore left shoulder. “I haven’t put any thought into Opening Day outside of Clayton.”
Kershaw is taking a couple of days off from any throwing, and the plan is to hope he feels better when he throws again.
“Right now, the main thought for us is see how he feels Thursday and then we can set out a schedule at that point,” Roberts said. “Right now, we feel good about what we’re doing as a staff, as an organization, and we’ll go from there.”
Kershaw has earned seven consecutive All-Star selections, three National League Cy Young Awards, and an NL Most Valuable Player Award. He’s started 30 or more games and thrown 200 or more innings in five seasons, and he’s got 25 complete games under his belt while tallying 153 wins and posting a career ERA of 2.39. He led the league in strikeouts three times -- including notching 301 in 2015.
With his durability off a tick or two over the past few seasons, it’s easy to imagine some frustration on Kershaw’s part after starting his spring so differently than he sketched it out over the winter.
“He’s as tough mentally of a player that I’ve ever been around,” Roberts said. “He prepares better than anybody. So he’s handling it as best as anyone could handle this situation.”
Kershaw hasn’t commented publicly since stepping back on Monday and telling Roberts he didn’t like the way the ball was coming out of his hand. Roberts is reluctant to characterize what Kershaw is thinking about the early struggles.
He’s put in so much work -- and when you start Spring Training, he wants to be out there," Roberts said. “However you want to categorize it, that’s probably what he’s feeling. No one takes care of himself better than he does. We’ll wait until Thursday and see how he is.”
The Dodgers’ depth on the hill is evidenced by having at least seven pitchers they could pencil into a starting rotation to open the season. Behind Kershaw are Walker Buehler, Hyun-Jin Ryu, Rich Hill, Kenta Maeda (who threw a scoreless inning and struck out two in his first start Tuesday), Ross Stripling and Julio Urias.
“He absolutely is our guy and will continue to be our guy,” Roberts said of Kershaw before Tuesday’s tilt with the Royals. “Right now, it just doesn’t make any sense to get too far ahead of things. I’m really not trying to get too much into overthinking it, really.”

Dodgers' Josh Sborz: Rough showing Tuesday
Rotowire 9H ago
Sborz (0-1) was tagged with the loss in Tuesday's spring game against the Royals as he allowed one run on one hit and three walks. Sborz had a 4.38 ERA and 1.43 WHIP at Triple-A Oklahoma City, though he did post a 47:15 K:BB over 37 innings. The 25-year-old faces long odds to make the Opening Day roster and Tuesday's lack of control certainly doesn't help.

Dodgers' Corey Seager: Faces live pitching Tuesday
Rotowire 13H ago
Seager (elbow) took his first swings against live pitching Tuesday, Bill Plunkett of The Orange County Register reports.
Seager had been limited to tracking pitches prior to Tuesday's live batting practice session, which he reported feeling fine after. If the shortstop continues to progress on schedule, manager Dave Roberts said he could be cleared to play in minor-league games as early as next week. At this point, Seager is still on track to be ready for the start of the season.

Dodgers' Cody Bellinger: Returns to lineup
Rotowire 18H ago
(back) is in the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Royals.
Bellinger had been dealing with back soreness, but the issue was apparently a minor one, as he returned to workouts after just one day and is back in the lineup after just two. Barring setbacks, he'll have plenty of time to be ready for the start of the regular season.

Dodgers' Clayton Kershaw: To throw again Thursday Rotowire Feb 27, 2019
Kershaw (shoulder) will try to throw again Thursday, Bill Plunkett of The Orange County Register reports.
Kershaw has had a pair of frustrating throwing sessions so far this spring and has said that his shoulder didn't feel right. The team didn't appear overly concerned after either incident, and he's yet to be scheduled for an MRI or shut down for any extended period, but the fact that he's been briefly shut down twice is undoubtedly discouraging. A clearer picture of his status will hopefully emerge following Thursday's session.

Dodgers' Ross Stripling: Seems back to full health
Rotowire 19H ago
Stripling (illness) faced live hitters last Thursday, the Orange County Register reports.
An upper-respiratory issue put Stripling a little behind most of the other arms in Dodgers camp. His Cactus League debut has not yet been scheduled, but it sounds like Stripling has shaken the illness, so we should see him in exhibition play soon. With Clayton Kershaw (shoulder) shut down from throwing, the door would appear open for Stripling to potentially crack the rotation.

Get the Giants to offer $50,000,000 a year. I don't get the Giants, their roster is old with ineffective hitters and pitchers and a 26th ranked farm as of last year. This is probably Zaidi raising the price or a Boras negotiating tactic against the Dodgers. Let the Gnats have him! Or Phillies, though they're not mentioned much now, but you never know. We have way too many good OFers so why do we need Harper? He has great ability and is arguably the 2nd best player in the bigs, but he has an attitude problem. No one can deny his greatness since his MVP year, but just like last year with the Nats, he'd be a drag on us. A starting OF of Vergudo/Pollock/Bellinger is the envy of many teams. Anyhow, just like the Padres just breaking the bank to lock up Machado, shouldn't the Gnats be more concerned with their pitching? Harper might get them a few more wins than their 73 last year, but nowhere near 90, the number needed to compete for the division title.
