Donald Trump says he won't extend White House invitation to NBA champions
Ben Rohrbach, Yahoo Sports•Jun 8, 2018, 7:13 AM
Once again, President Donald Trump won’t extend a White House invite to an NBA championship team that wouldn’t accept it anyway.
“We’re not going to invite either team,” Trump told reporters before leaving for the G7 summit in Canada on Friday morning.
This pointless exercise comes three days after Cleveland Cavaliers superstar LeBron James and Golden State Warriors counterpart Stephen Curry both publicly avowed neither team would attend if invited.
“I know no matter who wins this series,” James said, “no one wants to go anyway.”
“I agree with ‘Bron,” added Curry.
Donald Trump vs. professional sports
The subject first came up during off-day media availability between Finals games in Cleveland on Tuesday, the same day news broke that Trump disinvited the Philadelphia Eagles from a planned Super Bowl celebration at the White House because too few players planned on attending.
“I’m blown away by the irony of the Eagles being disinvited,” Warriors coach Steve Kerr told reporters on Wednesday. “When you read about their good deeds in their communities — Malcolm Jenkins addressing lawmakers about really trying to get to the root of some of the issues we have — and instead, we just have these military sing-alongs at the White House to show how patriotic we are, even though we don’t know the words. It’s just incredible. It is incredible.”
The WNBA’s Minnesota Lynx never received an invitation to Trump’s White House. The team chose instead to commemorate its 2017 championship with a day of community service in Washington D.C.
Members of last year’s NHL champion Pittsburgh Penguins and Major League Baseball champion Houston Astros attended White House ceremonies over the past eight months. At least one member of the newly crowd NHL champion Washington Capitals has said he will not accept an invite from Trump.
“The things that he spews are straight-up racist and sexist,” Capitals winger Devante Smith-Pelly said.
Donald Trump vs. the NBA
Trump also disinvited the Warriors from a White House visit that was never planned following their NBA title victory last season, one day after Curry declared, “I don’t want to go.” A handful of players, including 2017 Finals MVP Kevin Durant, were also on record saying they would not attend if invited.
“I don’t respect who’s in office right now,” Durant said last year.
James has dubbed the president a “bum” who “doesn’t even care” about race relations. Curry has called Trump an asset without the “et.” Warriors coach Steve Kerr has described the president as “a blowhard” who “routinely used racist, misogynist, insulting words” and signed “horrible” immigration policy into law. Both James and Durant have accused the president of making racist remarks.

I really want this guy to succeed. It means America succeeds. Starting to lose faith though. Please stop tweeting.

I normally try to stay out of political discussions however, since this thread was already on the board, I thought I might take a moment to ask a few questions, as a good deal of the posters here live in the blue states of the western part of the country. First of all - I am not a Trump fan. I find him boorish, indecisive, uninformed and generally overwhelmed in his position as the leader of the free world.
That being said, it continues to be a mystery to me as to how the left feel Russia ultimately got him elected. They obviously had no control over our ballots or voting process, as HRC did win the popular vote. I didn't receive any phone calls or e-mails from Russia influencing me to vote for Trump. None of the yard signs I saw were in Russian.
Did they pay for or contribute to his campaign? Probably - but HRC contributions amounted to in excess of $250 million MORE than the Don and the push for her here in Ohio FAR outweighed Trump.
Were there subliminal messages placed in our favorite television shows by the Russians saying "Vote Trump, Vote Trump"? I don't remember seeing any. Did the Russians kidnap and hold hostage Democrats to keep them from voting? Not that I know of.
Was / is Trump in bed with Putin and Russia regarding business transactions? Again, that's been well documented. But just how did / do those transactions have any influence on our election thousands of miles away?
And just what constitutes the labeling of Trump as committing acts of treason? Has he sold off our military secrets? Armed Russia with additional nukes? Put their interests ahead of ours? I don't believe he has done any of these things or others he has been accused of.
So, he leaned more toward Putin on his word than those of the US investigation, which many have referred to as a "witchhunt" with no interest whatsoever other than to remove Trump from office. What was he supposed to do on world wide television? Call Putin a liar and start WWIII? Would that have made the liberals happier?
The truth of the matter is, the Democrats elected to go with a candidate so despicable that even someone like Trump could and did defeat her and they refuse to admit it was THEIR mistake in doing so. They couldn't even get their own party and voters to cast a ballot in her favor.
Again, while she did win the popular vote, a good deal of that came from heavily populated states like New York and California which are and have always been blue states. The Electoral College was put in place to keep one or two states from determining the fate of the other 48. If I was a Democrat, I certainly wouldn't want my country and the decisions affecting it being run by one or two red states.
So I ask you west coasters and anyone else who wants to weigh in on this subject - how did Russia "fix" our election? What am I missing? What shred of evidence or proof is there that supports this investigation? Show me something - ANYTHING - that might support this theory. Because at this point, I just don't see it. Enlighten me!

I agree that what Trump has done doesn't warrant this intense criticism. Hillary was the worst possible candidate. She's FAR worse than Trump. That said, Donald feels empowered to talk smack about anyone he wants to on his twitter account. Someone talks about him & he wants them censored. The sh1t he had to say about our European allies was rambling & suggested a confused mind. He was repeating himself. It was painful to watch. I think he's senile.
Our navy is larger than all the rest of the world's navies combined. We purposely put ourselves in the lead for bad boys on the block. To say now that our allies aren't pulling their weight is simplistic & sort of retarded. Trump doesn't understand the first thing about geopolitics. He's 'special.'

I did find out that it is illegal to accept campaign contributions from foreign countries, so that seems to be the root of the accusations. But c’mon - did those contributions from Russia REALLY fix the election?
And again, HRC received and outspent Trump by a quarter of a BILLION dollars. NO WAY anyone can convince me some of that money didn’t come from “foreign interests”. I saw twice as many Clinton signs, commercials, etc. than I did for Trump. Still didn’t want to make me vote for her.
So where is the collusion? I am on Twitter and follow a number of musicians and Hollywood types, 99% of whom are as far left as one can go. But their tweets are getting beyond ridiculous. She lost - it’s over - let it go!
Al Gore lost because of “hanging chads” and had the recount been completed correctly, he very well could have beaten Bush. And yes - he was rightfully upset and protested. But after a couple of weeks, he accepted the outcome. Two YEARS later and the Dems are STILL bitching.
Wanna take back the White House? Find a more viable, qualified and most importantly LIKABLE and electable candidate. People may not like Trump, but if the economy continues to grow and unemployment continues to fall, he has a very good chance at a second term, despite his constant lying and “foot in mouth” moments.
He has stood up to NATO, our allies and enemies and has stated we will no longer be the lapdogs for those countries that have taken advantage of the US for decades via “deals” made by previous administrations.
He may go down as one of the worst Presidents in history. But then again, he may be considered as one of the best. Only time will give us the answer to that. He still has another couple of years before the voters make that decision.

GO DODGERS!!! I'm not a Trump fan either. Yes, he's boorish, but he's anything but indecisive. He makes his stands on issues known from the get-go. Some may not like them, but he hates waffles. And he's very informed. All that said, though I'm conservative, he's a little extreme for me. But I do love when he fires insults back at the even more boorish Maxine Waters, the most disgusting, hateful woman I've even heard of. She cried "RACISM!!!" and the left wing press supported her. And no, the Russians didn't help him steal the election, but they did interfere, placing anti-Hillary ads hoping to sway people. I find it very interesting the people who complain about that, their views weren't swayed. They just needed something to stir up commotion. I voted for Johnson, the libertarian candidate. I'd vote for Rand Paul if I could.

I don’t believe for one minute any of those ads helped Trump or hurt Clinton. She was / is unlikeable from the get go and could even get members of her OWN PARTY out to vote for her.
And I understand it is illegal to accept campaign funding from foreign countries - but I’m not naive enough to think or believe Trump was the first to do so (and he certainly won’t be the last!).
Trump is a loudmouth and boor as you said; but he’s getting things done and doesn’t seem to give a damn about offending anyone in the process.
It will certainly be interesting with the upcoming midterms. The Dems seem confident that they will overtake Congress; but they also thought Hillary was a LOCK.

Okay - so I think most here know I’m not a huge fan of the Donald however, can admit that I voted for the dude simply because I am even less of one of HRC.
But some of the “fake” or “missing pieces” news that is being reported just to make him look more buffoonish is getting ridiculous, the most recent of which is the nuclear arms treaty with Russia, signed decades ago by Reagan.
This treaty has been ignored by Russia for YEARS, so if we’re the only ones participating and agreeing to it, what purpose does it serve? They can have the missles but we can’t? Absurd!
The media did the SAME thing with that ecological treaty that he refused to sign. Dozens of countries did sign and agree to its terms, yet the good old US of A was the ONLY one that was in compliance with its regulations. Yet, once again, he / we’re the “bad guys”.
And don’t even get me started about the “partial” taped incident involving a local high school and that Native American, who from multiple reports I read, is no stranger to stirring up controversy.
I also recently saw the Colorado senate passed an act making the “popular” vote take precedent over the Electoral College. Well, let’s see - who lives in CO? A LOT of very rich and famous people - predominantly Democrat and much like CA & NY, two of the most populated states in the nation and also predominantly Democrat.
Yes - HRC won the “popular” vote - that horse has been beaten to death. But ONLY because she got the votes of those two states. I don’t know about you, but I don’t want TWO states deciding the fate of the other 48 or direction this country is going to be run come 2020.
The EC was put in place for that reason and purpose and while it’s certainly not perfect, it seems to have worked for the past couple of centuries plus. Leave the system alone.
If Dems truly want to take over the entire government, find a likeable candidate worthy of doing so. HRC and Sanders aren’t either.
GO DODGERS!!!

I agree about the Electoral College. If a party or candidate focused on appealing to a few major cities he or she could swing the popular vote & to hell with Farmer John & his wife. And I'm a city boy.

Donald never met a bridge he didn't want to take a match to.
Trump Rages At Fox News, Says It's Now Worse Than 'Fake News CNN'
Ed Mazza
HuffPost•July 7, 2019
President Donald Trump lit into his once-favorite network on Sunday, saying Fox News is now even “worse” than his longtime bête noire, CNN.
Trump said the network “forgot the people who got them there.” He griped Fox News was “loading up with Democrats” and complained it was citing The New York Times as “a ‘source’ of information,” an apparent reference to the newspaper’s Sunday article about disease, hunger and overcrowding at a Texas center holding migrant children.
The president tweeted:
Donald J. Trump Verified account @realdonaldtrump
Watching @foxnews weekend anchors is worse than watching low ratings Fake News @cnn, or Lyin’ Brian Williams (remember when he totally fabricated a War Story trying to make himself into a hero, & got fired. A very dishonest journalist!) and the crew of degenerate......

Trump is known to watch Fox News and has granted many of his interviews to the network. Lately, however, he has attacked the cable network several times.

This guy doesn't seem to feel complete without being embroiled in some sort of personal conflict. He takes everything far too personally.
Him giving business advice, after so many bankruptcies of his own, is mildly amusing. Maybe it was a strategic restructuring of debt, Don.

Him giving business advice, after so many bankruptcies of his own, is mildly amusing. Maybe it was a strategic restructuring of debt, Don. There just doesn’t seem to be ANY middle ground anymore. It’s “us against them” in a country we all share. I would never advocate the violence and deaths that would result, but damn - maybe that show Designated Survivor had the right idea. Remove them ALL from their offices and positions and START OVER. From DC, to every state, city, county, municipality and town. Just fire them all and START OVER. In my 50 plus years of knowing what government is and is supposed to be, I’ve never seen it this bad and likely to get even worse before they improve. A majority controlled one party congress, house & President has never worked in the history of this nation. Nothing gets done because even then they cannot agree on anything. Has ANYTHING really changed since the Dems took over the house last November? Are we to believe if they take over the Senate & Presidency that all of our problems will be solved? With their programs of forgiving college tuition debts, free schooling and health care for all among other things, we might as well sign the bankruptcy papers now. We can’t even take care of our OWN citizens and vets - but let’s let EVERYBODY who wants to come in and get their freebies. We have a homeless problem here in Cincinnati just like most major cities. But it was NOTHING compared to what I saw in LA last fall or NYC or Chicago. People sleeping on benches or the ground or the subway - EVERYWHERE, every street, every corner. The Dems have been in charge of these cities (as has Cincy) for decades and homelessness has increased tenfold. And that’s just a minuscule iota of this country’s problems. If they can’t take care of their OWN people in their OWN cities, how can anyone with half a brain expect them to run the ENTIRE country? And again - I’m not part of that MAGA group who thinks the dude can do no wrong and walks on water. But the economy & stock market are both thriving, joblessness is lower than its been for decades and he’s put more than a few countries on notice that we’re not going to be their lapdogs any longer. I’ve actually seen my workload increase for the first time in years and at its current pace, I’m likely to gross more this year than I have since I started doing this type of work in the early 90’s and was putting in full 9 or 10 hour days due to so many assignments. Are we headed for another civil war? It doesn’t seem entirely out of the question at this point. It sickens me just how PC this country has become. They can burn all the flags, take down all the statues and monuments, but it’s never going to change the FACTS that these people and events happened. What’s next? Razing of the Jefferson Memorial and the removal of his face from Mt. Rushmore? How about we burn Monticello to the ground? Those that attempt to change history are destined to repeat it. I read that somewhere. GO DODGERS!!!

It makes him look bad to be picking petty fights with former underlings & people he thinks are out to get him. 3 - Which is why they're so eager to disarm us. 4 - The PC part doesn't bother me nearly so much as what the lopsided nature of being PC in America entails. As a white male (supposedly hardwired into the 'system,' but who has actually lived somewhere in a never-never land in between), I find it offensive that I'm supposed to pay for the mistakes made by other white people of European extraction who lived & died before I was even born. Most (not ' some') of my friends are of color. Hell, I was a minority in my own household. So when people want to go 'there' with me, pretty much all of them would say it's a bad idea. Why did MLB change the Disabled List to the Injured List? Were disabled people offended? Get a grip.

You know - I never really gave much thought to MLB changing the DL to the IL, but what you said make PERFECT sense!
Some group or groups with lifetime or permanent disabilities probably got offended and petitioned MLB with the idea that players weren’t REALLY “disabled” like them.
They were simply “injured” and unable to play baseball to the best of their abilities due to these injuries.
It’s been known as the DL since before I was born. But God forbid that got someone’s panties in a bunch and MLB was forced to make the change.
I can only assume the NFL, NHL, NBA & NCAA are soon to follow, if they haven’t already.
And I ABSOLUTELY agree that someone should take Donald’s iPhone and computer access away and close his Twitter account.
It just seems SO juvenile and un-Presidential that the man in charge of one of the superpowers of the world has access to and uses a system that 99% uses for amusement purposes only to post his every inane thought, tirade or insult.
I get that the media loathes him and does everything in their power to make him look foolish - and God knows he gives them plenty of fodder for them to run with. And are they excessive with their baiting and tactics? Probably.
There’s a series running on Showtime called “Our Cartoon President”. Now I’ve never seen one second of it because just the title is offensive enough for me not to watch.
I never though much of Obama, but I respected him and his position as our President, just as I have for all that I voted and didn’t vote for.
But can you imagine the outrage half of this country would have waged if Obama was the subject of “Our Cartoon President”? I’m thinking 70’s Watts, intensified by around a million.
And that obnoxious Samantha Bee with her weekly TBS show is nothing more than 30 minutes of Liberal Left Wing propaganda. Bill Maher on HBO? More of the same.
I never saw ANY shows like this, other than Maher with Obama, Clinton or the Bushes.
But Trump has become the punching bag of the century and his massive ego just won’t allow him to ignore them or anyone else who happens to cross him.
For the good of all of us and what’s left of these “United” states, I just wish the dude would continue to do his job and shut the F up.
GO DODGERS!!!

Sebastian Gorka at the center of Rose Garden ruckus following Trump event
Hunter Walker White House Correspondent,Yahoo News•July 11, 2019
WASHINGTON — It was an unusual spectacle, even by the unconventional standards of the Trump administration. After President Trump invited a group of right-wing and fringe media figures to the White House for a “social media summit” on Thursday, the event ended with a former presidential adviser and a CNN political analyst getting into a heated exchange in the Rose Garden.
The fracas followed an event that was billed as a “news conference” in which Trump announced an executive order directing U.S. agencies to provide the Commerce Department with all available data on the citizenship and non-citizenship status of everyone living in the country.
The Rose Garden event followed the social media summit and many of the same conservative media figures attended both, sandwiched between the president and the White House press corps.
When Trump finished speaking, CNN political analyst Brian Karem and former White House deputy assistant Sebastian Gorka exchanged words across the rope line that separated the two groups. Karem said something inaudible that prompted Gorka to charge across the garden and get in front of him.
“You’re not a journalist! You’re a punk!” Gorka fumed.
Gorka turned and walked away as the president’s other guests chanted his name.
One reporter from the White House press corps admonished Gorka as he left.
“You should not be attacking journalists like this!” she said.
Another man who was with the media contingent invited by the president came to Gorka’s defense.
“Just for the record, he’d kick your punk ass,” the man said to Karem.
Karem responded by shaking his head and walking towards the man. Security stepped in and guided Karem away.
The surreal scene was the culmination of a day when Trump aired a long list of grievances about the mainstream media and major technology companies. Speaking in the East Room of the White House, Trump told his guests that they were “fulfilling a vital role in our nation ... challenging the media gatekeepers and the corporate censors to bring the facts straight to the American people.” In the nearly hour-long speech, Trump repeatedly suggested there was a conspiracy that was preventing him from having more followers and viewers on social media platforms.
"There's no doubt in my mind that I should have millions and millions — I have millions of people, so many people I wouldn't believe it, but I know that we’ve been blocked,” Trump said. “People come up to me and they say, ‘Sir, I can’t get you. I can’t follow you.’”
