Los Angeles Dodgers @ Miami Marlins Tuesday, May 15, 4:10 PM PT, Marlins Park TV: SportsNet LA, SNLA Spanish Radio: AM 570 LA Sports, KTNQ 1020 Justin Turner return day? At any rate, we get to face our old friend Don Mattingly. The Dodgers have lost their last four in a row, are 4-8 in May, & 5-14 over their last 19 games. They're 16-24 / .400 overall, 7.5 games behind the Diamondbacks (who have lost 6 in a row themselves), & just 1.5 games ahead of the Monterrey Padres for last place in the NL West. These are hard times in Dodgeritaville. The Marlins are 14-26 / .350 & 11 games out of 1st place in the NL West. They've lost 2 in a row, & are 4-8 in May. They're 8-14 at home. This is it; if the Dodgers can't beat the Marlins then it's time to start looking at making some changes. Alex Wood, LHP Wood takes a ninth crack at his first win, a far cry from 2017, when he was 6-0 at this time on the way to his first All-Star berth. He’s pitched better than his record suggests, with a .219 opponents average against and a 1.00 WHIP. www.baseball-reference.com/players/w/woodal02.shtmlwww.baseball-reference.com/players/gl.fcgi?id=woodal02&t=p&year=2018Although he has a 1.40 WHIP in his last 2 starts (5.0 innings each), Alex sports a 1.80 ERA. Both of those starts were against Arizona's vaunted lineup, btw. He hasn't reached 100 pitches in any game yet this season. www.baseball-reference.com/play-index/batter_vs_pitcher.cgi?request=1&submitter=1&pitcher=woodal02&min_year_game=2013&max_year_game=2018&post=1&opp_id=FLA&bats=any&c1gtlt=gt&c2gtlt=gt&orderby=PA&orderby_dir=desc&orderby_second=Name&orderby_dir_second=ascCastro has done very well against him. That's it. He hasn't faced the Marlins this year. www.brooksbaseball.net/pfxVB/pfx.php?month=5&day=9&year=2018&game=gid_2018_05_09_arimlb_lanmlb_1%2F&pitchSel=622072&prevGame=gid_2018_05_09_arimlb_lanmlb_1%2F&prevDate=59&league=mlbHe averaged 91.1 mph on his fastball last outing, with a max of 92.8. He threw a lot of sliders & changes. The sliders induced swings & misses to the tune of 20.8%. www.fangraphs.com/statss.aspx?playerid=13781&position=PAlex is a ground ball pitcher. According to fangraphs & Brooks combined, it was just this year Wood started throwing the slider & abandoned his curve. His fastball is also better than his historical average. About the same as in his stellar 2017 season. Wei-Yin Chen, LHP After two straight rough road outings, Chen will be glad to return home, where he allowed one run in 5 1/3 innings vs. the Rockies on April 28. In his past two starts, he yielded 13 runs in seven innings, including five homers. www.baseball-reference.com/players/c/chenwe02.shtmlA 10.22 ERA & 1.95 WHIP in 12.1 innings, covering 3 starts. What a waste of money this guy has been. ($80,000,000 over 5 years.). He hasn't gone over 82 pitches in any start this season. www.baseball-reference.com/players/gl.fcgi?id=chenwe02&t=p&year=2018www.baseball-reference.com/boxes/CHN/CHN201805090.shtmlVersus the Cubs in his last outing. 3.0 innings, 7 hits allowed, 2 doubles, 1 triple, 3 homers, 2 walks, & 9 runs, all earned. He did get a strikeout though. www.baseball-reference.com/play-index/batter_vs_pitcher.cgi?request=1&submitter=1&pitcher=chenwe02&min_year_game=2012&max_year_game=2018&post=1&opp_id=LAD&bats=any&c1gtlt=gt&c2gtlt=gt&orderby=PA&orderby_dir=desc&orderby_second=Name&orderby_dir_second=ascIs Forsythe going to be ready to go tonight? Because he's raked Chen. www.brooksbaseball.net/pfxVB/pfx.php?month=5&day=9&year=2018&game=gid_2018_05_09_miamlb_chnmlb_1%2F&pitchSel=612672&prevGame=gid_2018_05_09_miamlb_chnmlb_1%2F&prevDate=59&league=mlbHe has some velocity on his fastball & he throws it a lot. Must have no movement. He also throws a slider & change. He rarely throws a curve. www.fangraphs.com/statss.aspx?playerid=13071&position=P56% of all balls hit against Chen are fly balls. His homerun rate is astonishing. Just 30% of batted balls are grounders. losangeles.dodgers.mlb.com/stats/sortable.jsp?c_id=la#elem=%5Bobject+Object%5D&tab_level=child&click_text=Sortable+Player+hitting&game_type='R'&season=2018&season_type=ANY&league_code='MLB'§ionType=sp&statType=hitting&page=1&ts=1526397639177&playerType=ALL&sportCode='mlb'&split=&team_id=119&active_sw=&position=&page_type=SortablePlayer&sortOrder='desc'&sortColumn=avg&results=&perPage=50&timeframe=&last_x_days=&extended=0 miami.marlins.mlb.com/stats/sortable.jsp?c_id=mia#elem=%5Bobject+Object%5D&tab_level=child&click_text=Sortable+Player+hitting&game_type='R'&season=2018&season_type=ANY&league_code='MLB'§ionType=sp&statType=hitting&page=1&ts=1526397703131 Realmuto is a stud. May 14, 2018 10:34 am Dodgers' Clayton Kershaw: Plays catch Sunday by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire Kershaw (biceps) played catch prior to the Dodgers' game Sunday against the Reds, Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic Los Angeles reports.
It's encouraging sign that Kershaw has been able to play catch for several days in a row, but with the lefty having yet to resume mound work, it appears unlikely that he'll be activated from the 10-day disabled list this week. That presumably puts Ross Stripling on track for at least one more turn through the rotation over the weekend in Washington, though the Dodgers have yet to confirm as much. Expect a more defined target date for Kershaw's return to become crystallized once the ace is able to face hitters in batting practice.

May 13, 2018 2:35 pm Dodgers' Logan Forsythe: To return Tuesday by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire Forsythe (shoulder) is expected to be activated from the disabled list Tuesday, Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic Los Angeles reports.
Forsythe will have officially missed a month of action when he's activated on Tuesday. The Dodgers also plan to activate third baseman Justin Turner (wrist) from the DL as well, so their additions to the lineup should help the team dig themselves out of the hole they find themselves in following a frustratingly slow start to the season. Forsythe's return will cut into Chase Utley's playing time.

May 13, 2018 2:31 pm Dodgers' Justin Turner: Will return Tuesday by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire Turner (wrist) is expected to be activated from the disabled list Tuesday, Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic Los Angeles reports.
According to manager Dave Roberts, the plan is for Turner to make his long anticipated season debut Tuesday against the Marlins. The third baseman slashed .322/.415/.530 with 21 home runs and 90 RBI last season, so his insertion back into the Dodgers' middling lineup will certainly be a welcome addition.

May 13, 2018 12:44 am Dodgers' Adam Liberatore: Unavailable with ankle injury by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire Manager Dave Roberts said Liberatore was unavailable Saturday against the Reds due to an ankle injury, Bill Shaikin of the Los Angeles Times reports.
Roberts didn't provide specifics regarding the injury, so the severity of the issue remains unclear. Consider him day-to-day for now, while Scott Alexander will serve as the primary left-hander in the bullpen until Liberatore is healthy again.

May 15, 2018 3:50 pm Dodgers' Justin Turner: Activated for season debut by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire Turner (wrist) was activated from the disabled list Tuesday and is in the lineup for the Dodgers' game in Miami, David Vassegh of AM 570 LA Sports reports. Turner has yet to play so far this season after breaking his wrist in a spring training game. He'll head immediately to the third spot in the order for a Dodgers team that could certainly use a boost, as their record currently sits at 16-24. Turner hit a very impressive .322/.415/.530 last season, though whether or not the wrist injury will have any lingering effects on his ability to drive the ball remains to be seen. Cody is slashing .216 / .293 / .353 versus lefthanded pitching this year. How long before they start platooning him?

Hope Turner comes out guns ablazing. I know it may take him awhile but they need all the production they can get. They got a break from Arizona as they've seem to hit a wall. Have to take advantage. It's May 15, you can't really say it's early anymore. In fact, it's gotten very late for us in a hurry. Tonight's starter has an ERA of 10. I don't care about our past struggles, we need to go out there and tee off of this guy.

Wood continues to pitch well. Nothing to show for it though.
