Los Angeles Dodgers @ Arizona Diamondbacks Tuesday, May 1, 6:40 PM PT, Chase Field TV: SportsNet LA, SNLA Spanish Radio: AM 570 LA Sports, KTNQ 1020 The Dodgers are 12-16 / .429 & in 4th place in the NL West, 8.0 games behind Arizona after dropping 3 of 4 to the Giants in Frisco. They're 1-6 after going 7-1. Dave Roberts' ploy of lashing out at his players hasn't worked yet. The Diamondbacks are 20-8 / .714 & in 1st place in the NL West, 5.5 games ahead of the 2nd place Colorado Rockies. They took the first game in this series last night by a score of 8-5. Clayton Kershaw, LHP Kershaw has work to do to rebound from his last start, a six-walk outing against the last-place Marlins. His 5-8 mark at Chase Field is his worst at any ballpark. www.baseball-reference.com/players/k/kershcl01.shtmlwww.baseball-reference.com/players/gl.fcgi?id=kershcl01&t=p&year=2018Clayton has a career 3.70 ERA & 1.21 WHIP in 80.1 innings at Chase Park. For some reason I can't pull up his numbers against individual hitters right now. Matt Koch, RHP Koch has been solid since he was plugged into the rotation to replace Taijuan Walker. This will be Koch's fifth career start. He earned his first MLB win against the Dodgers in September 2016, when he tossed an inning of relief in a 12-inning game. www.baseball-reference.com/players/k/kochma01.shtmlwww.baseball-reference.com/players/gl.fcgi?id=kochma01&t=p&year=2018He's hot. www.baseball-reference.com/play-index/batter_vs_pitcher.cgi?request=1&submitter=1&pitcher=kochma01&min_year_game=2016&max_year_game=2018&post=1&opp_id=LAD&bats=any&c1gtlt=gt&c2gtlt=gt&orderby=PA&orderby_dir=desc&orderby_second=Name&orderby_dir_second=ascwww.brooksbaseball.net/pfxVB/pfx.php?month=4&day=26&year=2018&game=gid_2018_04_26_arimlb_phimlb_1%2F&pitchSel=571863&prevGame=gid_2018_04_26_arimlb_phimlb_1%2F&prevDate=426&league=mlbHe throws hard. www.fangraphs.com/statss.aspx?playerid=13420&position=PHe's been inducing a lot of grounders. losangeles.dodgers.mlb.com/stats/sortable.jsp?c_id=la#elem=%5Bobject+Object%5D&tab_level=child&click_text=Sortable+Player+hitting&game_type='R'&season=2018&season_type=ANY&league_code='MLB'§ionType=sp&statType=hitting&page=1&ts=1525108953496 arizona.diamondbacks.mlb.com/stats/sortable.jsp?c_id=ari#elem=%5Bobject+Object%5D&tab_level=child&click_text=Sortable+Player+hitting&game_type='R'&season=2018&season_type=ANY&league_code='MLB'§ionType=sp&statType=hitting&page=1&ts=1525109021837 Gametime Forecast: 74°F • Mostly Cloudy • 6% PoP I predict total bedlam if Clayton does poorly in a park he's historically struggled in.

May 1, 2018 9:29 am Dodgers' Max Muncy: Cranks solo shot Monday by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire Muncy went 1-for-4 with his second home run of the season in Monday's 8-5 loss to the Diamondbacks.
Muncy should see regular at-bats at the hot corner against righties until either Logan Forsythe (shoulder) or Justin Turner (wrist) return, with Enrique Hernandez being needed in the outfield following Corey Seager's (elbow) placement on the disabled list. The 27-year-old hasn't been able to replicate last year's success with Triple-A Oklahoma (.309/.414/.563), but he could be a short-term source of power in deeper formats with three of his six hits this season going for extra bases.

May 1, 2018 2:14 am Dodgers' Ross Stripling: Loses in spot start Monday by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire Stripling (0-1) allowed four runs on eight hits and a walk with two strikeouts over four innings to take the loss Monday against Arizona.
Stripling was forced to start in the wake of Rich Hill (finger) suffering a setback, as Hill was targeting Monday for his return start. Stripling hadn't pitched more than two innings all season before Monday's spot start, and things collapsed early. The Diamondbacks got to Stripling for three runs in the second, including a run that scored on a single by opposing starter Zack Greinke. Hill will need additional time to rehab his finger, and while Walker Buehler is slated to be called up to join the rotation before Hill's next turn, Clayton Kershaw won't pitch on normal rest in Mexico City on Sunday, so Stripling could get the ball again in that contest. Stripling had allowed just one run in 14.1 relief innings before Monday's spot start, and the Dodgers will happily slide Stripling back into that role once they no longer need him as a spot starter.

April 30, 2018 9:47 pm Dodgers' Justin Turner: Continues swinging drills by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire Turner (wrist) hit off a tee Monday, David Vassegh of AM 570 LA Sports reports.
Turner has continued making progress recovering from the broken wrist that he suffered during spring training. The team indicated that if he continues improving as he has been, it's not out of question for him to return by mid-May, although a more definitive timeframe should come into focus when Turner begins a rehab assignment.

April 30, 2018 8:22 pm Dodgers' Corey Seager: Tommy John surgery scheduled for Friday by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire Seager (elbow) will undergo Tommy John surgery Friday, J.P. Hoornstra of the Los Angeles Daily News reports.
After undergoing Tommy John surgery, Seager will begin a lengthy rehab process. Per Andy McCullough of the Los Angeles Times, the Dodgers are hoping that Seager will be in full health by Opening Day for the 2019 season. With Seager out for the rest of the year, Chris Taylor will move from center field to shortstop.

April 30, 2018 8:11 pm Dodgers' Enrique Hernandez: Will regularly play center field by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire Hernandez is in line to see regular playing time in center field with Chris Taylor moving to shortstop, J.P. Hoornstra of the Los Angeles Daily News reports.
Corey Seager (elbow) was diagnosed with a sprained UCL on Monday and will undergo Tommy John surgery, resulting in him missing the rest of the season. Because of this, Chris Taylor will serve as the Dodgers' everyday shortstop, making room for Hernandez in center field. Hernandez has appeared in 23 games this season, over which he's hit .254/.347/.476 with three home runs.

May 1, 2018 11:41 am Diamondbacks' Jake Lamb: Throws from 120 feet by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire Lamb (shoulder/elbow) threw from approximately 120 feet Monday, Steve Gilbert of MLB.com reports.
Lamb, who has been on the disabled list since April 3 with a sprained AC joint in his left shoulder, seems to be nearing a return to full activities, as he has already taken batting practice and fielded grounders in recent days. Before he receives work in simulated games, he'll need to first make some throws across the diamond, a benchmark in his recovery that has been delayed due to a bout of elbow tendinitis. The Diamondbacks haven't etched out a clear timetable for Lamb's return, but a mid-May activation appears realistic if he can avoid any further setbacks.

May 1, 2018 11:31 am Diamondbacks' Nick Ahmed: Powers up Monday by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire Ahmed went 3-for-5 with a home run, double, two RBI and two runs in the Diamondbacks' 8-5 win over the Dodgers on Monday.
Ahmed finished a triple shy of the cycle in his third consecutive multi-hit effort, with the shortstop tallying four extra-base knocks over that span. Considering his poor offensive reputation entering the season, Ahmed has been one of the most surprising performers for the 20-8 Diamondbacks, with his unexpected surge in the power department helping to anchor the back half of the lineup. His slugging percentage now sits at a robust .524, more than 100 points better than his 2017 mark.

May 1, 2018 11:24 am Diamondbacks' David Peralta: Dealing with hand contusion by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire Peralta was diagnosed with a right hand contusion and is considered day-to-day following his early departure from the Diamondbacks' 8-5 victory over the Dodgers, Steve Gilbert of MLB.com reports.
Peralta was initially diagnosed with a wrist injury after being struck by a Tony Cingrani pitch during a seventh-inning at-bat, but manager Torey Lovullo clarified afterwards that X-rays on the outfielder's wrist returned negative and noted that the injury occurred higher up on his hand. It qualifies as fortunate news for Peralta, given that he required surgery in 2016 to stabilize his right wrist. The Diamondbacks will presumably check back on Peralta's condition early Tuesday before determining his status for the game later in the evening.

May 1, 2018 10:41 am Diamondbacks' Kris Medlen: Could replace Ray in rotation by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire Medlen was scratched from his scheduled start at Triple-A Reno on Monday, an indication he could be summoned to the big leagues when the Diamondbacks require a fifth starter Friday against the Astros, Steve Gilbert of MLB.com reports.
With Robbie Ray landing on the 10-day disabled list Monday with a Grade 2 oblique strain and expected to miss multiple turns through the rotation, the Diamondbacks will delve into their minor-league ranks to find a replacement starter. Neither of the Triple-A starters on the 40-man roster (Braden Shipley and Troy Scribner) have been particularly good this season, so it appears the Diamondbacks will instead look to Medlen, who attended spring training as a non-roster invitee, to fill the rotation void. Medlen hasn't dazzled at Reno either with a 6.00 ERA and 1.50 WHIP, but he's at least struck out a batter per inning and has enjoyed some prior success at the big-league level, albeit five years ago. Arizona can easily clear a spot for Medlen on the 40-man roster by transferring Taijuan Walker (elbow) to the 60-day disabled list, so expect a transaction to become official prior to Friday's series opener.

May 1, 2018 4:04 am Diamondbacks' A.J. Pollock: Blasts three homers against Dodgers by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire Pollock mashed three solo homers in a 3-for-5 game Monday against the Dodgers.
Of Pollock's nine home runs, five now come between two games, as Pollock already lit up the Dodgers for a multi-homer game back on April 14th. If Jarrod Dyson and Paul Goldschmidt hadn't gone a combined 1-for-9 in front of him on Monday night, it could have been an even bigger game, but I'm sure he's happy with the three homers -- and the win to pad Arizona's lead in the NL West. Pollock has been a big part of that hot Arizona start, as he now owns a .291/.351/.670 batting line.

May 1, 2018 2:27 am Diamondbacks' Brad Boxberger: Picks up ninth save against Los Angeles by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire Boxberger struck out a batter in a clean ninth inning for his ninth save Monday against the Dodgers.
Boxberger remains perfect in save opportunities, but he has taken a pair of losses in non-save situations, the only two of his 13 outings in which he has allowed runs. His ERA is down to 2.25 as Boxberger looks to post a sub-3.00 ERA for the first time since 2014 with the Rays, when he struck out 104 batters against just 20 walks over 64.2 innings of brilliant relief work.

May 1, 2018 2:23 am Diamondbacks' Zack Greinke: Strikes out 10 to beat Dodgers by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire Greinke (3-2) struck out 10 and held the Dodgers to two runs on four hits and a walk through six innings to pick up the win Monday over the Dodgers.
Greinke reached double digit strikeouts for the first time all season and picked up his second quality start of the season to pick up a big early win against a division rival. He was mixing speeds all night, as Greinke used just 35 fastballs in contrast to 54 breaking pitches, most notably the changeup (33, including 21 for strikes and three whiffs). Greinke showed he can still dominate despite his slipping velocity -- his fastball maxed out at just 91.3 mph Monday night, but he was still able to rack up the strikeouts thanks to his command and deceptiveness.

May 1, 2018 12:29 am Diamondbacks' David Peralta: Leaves game after getting plunked by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire Peralta was hit by a pitch on his right wrist in the seventh inning of Monday's matchup against the Dodgers, Jack Magruder of FanRagSports.com reports.
Peralta went down in a heap after taking a pitch off his wrist, but he was able to walk off the field with the head trainer moments later. He went 0-for-2 with two walks and one RBI prior to exiting the game. The severity of his injury is currently unknown.

April 30, 2018 7:11 pm Diamondbacks' T.J. McFarland: Option to replace Ray by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire McFarland is an option to replace Robbie Ray (oblique) in the starting rotation, Zach Buchanan of The Athletic Arizona reports.
Ray landed on the disabled list with a Grade 2 oblique strain Monday. McFarland has been solid as a long reliever this season, compiling a 2.25 ERA across 16 innings (eight appearances), so there's a chance manager Torey Lovullo shifts him to a starting role until Ray is ready to return. The Diamondbacks could also opt to turn to their farm if they want to keep McFarland in long-relief role.

April 30, 2018 7:00 pm Diamondbacks' Robbie Ray: Dealing with Grade 2 strain by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire Ray was diagnosed with a Grade 2 oblique strain, Steve Gilbert of MLB.com reports.
Ray was placed on the disabled list Monday due to the injury. Manager Torey Lovullo said that it's unknown when Ray will be ready to return at this point in time, so a timeframe will begin to take shape as his rehab gets underway. It remains to be seen who the Diamondbacks will call upon to replace Ray in the rotation, but Triple-A Reno starters Braden Shipley, Kris Medlen, Taylor Clarke and Troy Scribner are the presumable favorites to get the nod to join the big club.

May 1, 2018 6:05 pm Dodgers' Enrique Hernandez: Out of Tuesday's lineup by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire Hernandez is not in the lineup Tuesday against the Diamondbacks.
With Corey Seager out for the rest of the season, Hernandez is expected to see frequent time in center field while Chris Taylor covers shortstop. However, Hernandez will sit out Tuesday night as the Dodgers deploy Joc Pederson in center field.

May 1, 2018 6:14 pm Dodgers' Edward Paredes: Headed up to majors by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire Paredes was recalled from Triple-A Oklahoma City on Tuesday.
In a corresponding move, Brock Stewart was optioned to Triple-A Oklahoma City. Although he's allowed just two runs over nine games (9.2 innings) with Oklahoma City this season, Paredes has struggled retiring the opposition. He's allowed eight hits and walked seven batters across 9.2 innings.

May 1, 2018 8:23 pm Dodgers' Alex Wood: Next start likely coming against Padres by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire Wood is expected to start during the Dodgers' upcoming series against the Padres, which begins Friday, J.P. Hoornstra of the Los Angeles Daily News reports.
Wood last pitched Saturday, which would put him in line to start Thursday against the Diamondbacks on regular rest. However, manager Dave Roberts said that he will likely have Wood or Walker Buehler pitch on Friday, then have the other take the mound Saturday followed by Rich Hill (finger) on Sunday. More information regarding how the Dodgers will proceed with their rotation should be available in the near future.

May 1, 2018 8:08 pm Dodgers' Rich Hill: Returning Sunday against Padres by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire Hill (finger) will start Sunday against the Dodgers (how's he doing that?), David Vassegh of AM 570 LA Sports reports.
After suffering an infection in his finger and having his activation from the disabled list delayed, it seemed likely that Hill would miss at least one more turn through the rotation. However, the 38-year-old southpaw's condition seems to have improved, as he'll start Sunday's game against the Padres in Monterrey, Mexico. Hill has started three games this season, allowing 10 runs on 17 hits and seven walks over 15 innings.

May 1, 2018 8:07 pm Dodgers' Logan Forsythe: Nearing rehab assignment by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire Dodgers' manager Dave Roberts indicated Tuesday that Forsythe (shoulder) could begin a minor-league rehab assignment this weekend, Andy McCullough of the Los Angeles Times reports.
Forsythe had his throwing program pushed back multiple times since going on the disabled list April 15 with right shoulder inflammation, but now appears to be making progress. Assuming the 31-year-old can avoid any setbacks, a return sometime during next week's homestand against the Diamondbacks and Reds seems possible.

May 1, 2018 8:00 pm Dodgers' Justin Turner: Waiting to begin rehab assignment by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire Turner (wrist) won't begin a rehab assignment over the coming weekend, Andy McCullough of the Los Angeles Times reports.
Turner's condition has steadily improved, as he recently reached the point that he was hitting off a tee. The Dodgers will be cautious with Turner and hold off on sending him on a rehab assignment until they're certain that he's ready. While it's not out of the question for Turner to return around the middle of May, he'll need to play in a few minor-league games before joining the big club.
