Dodgers are 6-9 & leapfrogged past the Padres & into fourth place in the NL West last night. Padres are now 7-11 & in dead last.

Wood figures to improve from his previous start, which lasted only 3 2/3 innings as he was still feeling the effects of food poisoning. Of keen interest will be his fastball velocity, which remains several ticks below his All-Star form.

Bryan Mitchell, RHP

The Padres saw big-time potential in Mitchell when they traded for him in December, but he’s yet to live up to it in San Diego. Mitchell has induced plenty of weak contact, but he has more walks (14) than innings (12 2/3) this year.

Certainly hoping the last start was Wood still dealing with the food poisoning. By the sound of it, he shouldn't have been pitching anyway. I expect a much better performance tonight. Hopefully the offense stays hot.

Mitchell has pitched 3 games.

The first was awful, 5 ER in 5 IP

The 2nd was good, no runs, 3 hits in 5.2 IP. 6 BB though.

His last outing was 3 IP, 3 H, 3 ER and 5 BB.

14 walks so far in 13.2 IP. Guessing our guys will be patient tonight.

Hope this doesn't become a reverse 2016 season when they couldn't hit lefties to save their life. They need to do better against right-handed pitching.
